There are so many shortcuts in PS that simply seem hard to remember what the keystrokes are. Specifically, when I go to put a 1 pixel line on the edge of a border using the stroke method, I will zoom way in, select use of the rectangular marquis tool, then find the scroll bars to go to the top left corner, then drag my selection at the edge of the border and stroke it at 1 pixel.
Having to drag the scroll bars to get to a corner is a hassle at times depending on the screen size and know there was a command to zoom in, while keeping the top left corner on the screen, but didn't find it (didn't look very hard either).
Wel last night, by accident, I stumbled on something that I have found that makes it even easier. Put your mouse cursor in the blue section above the toolbar and use your scroll wheel on your mouse/trackball and watch what happens. It zooms in/out and keeps the focus on the top left corner:
So what are your Tips & Tricks / Shortcuts that have made your life easier?

Why do you use the marquis/stroke method to make a border? |

What I was referring to was if I have already added a 20 pixel white border, then wanted to add a fine 1 pixel edge on the white border.
Guess it's a way I know how to?

Control-a (PC) or Command-a (Mac) will "Select All" -- putting the selection marquee at the image boundary; then you can easily apply the stroke. |

Ctrl-a isn't too shabby. I was getting tired of Ctrl +, Ctrl +, Ctrl + then scroll over & up everytime I wanted to zoom into the corner.
Guess I've never been much of a keyboard shortcut kinda' guy. My shop management/invoicing/inventory system has a number of them and makes trying to remember so many way too confusing at times.
(was in a folder that had over 1,000 images in it, and did "something" in the keyboard that set a command to select and open all. Holy Crap was Irfaview busy! Reboot!) |

[ and ] make your brush smaller and larger. Holding down space gives you the hand tool, ctrl+space gives you zoom tool (ctrl+alt+space zoom out tool), I use these all the time. |

Neat shortcut.
Am I missing something though?
I add 1 pixel borders (and anything wider too) by simply expanding the canvas (Image Canvas Size) by the requisite number of pixel width x 2 from the centre out. It expands by whatever colour I've got selected as my background colour. Very quick.
