hey,
I've been thinking of buying the sigma flash since i'm low on budget.
What are the biggest differences between the two, cuz they seem very similar to me.
Thanks.

BUMP!!!
I'd like to know about this as well...but I'm told nothing but a Canon flash can be used with the 20D or it may fry the camera????

I am eyeballing the Sigma Flash myself. From what I have read, there should be no problem using it with a Canon DSLR camera body. I just need to convince my better half of the importance of that type of flash unit. |

Here's a comparison of the two: Sigma EF-500 vs. Canon 550 EX. Both work fine with the 20D (mine's the Sigma).

I have the 550EX and love it! It's amazing what it does for indoor shots or even as fill flash outside. I'm sure you can't go wrong no matter which flash you buy, sigma makes a good product too.
Here are some comparisons I did between the 550EX, 550EX w/ omnibounce, and onboard flash in a very dimly lighted room to give you an idea of what the 550EX can do. The color is much more warm and natural and not harsh like with onboard flash.

Omnibounce is that white plastic part that you put on the end of the flash right? what is FEC+1? sorry for the ignorance.

Correct, it's one of the features that is opened up with the hacked 300d firmware. The 300d is notorious for underexposure with the onboard flash and FEC helps to compensate for that.
And yes, the Stofen omnibounce is a small rectangular plastic piece that fits over the top of the flash to soften & spread the light more evenly. |

too bad it's not compared with the DG ver.
Sigma probably fixed some of the problems they had with the EF-500
