i've never used it never though i might have a reason to however its there but i dont know why. Anybody know what thats for? I usually jus do everything in CS why bother with image ready.

you can create entire webpages in image ready, as well as animated gif's

imageready is mostly for creating web graphics. you can slice up images, optimize them, create image maps, and, like hopper said, make animated gifs.
it's adobe's answer to macromedia fireworks, essentially. i guess now they'll be the same product.

Image Ready is designed specifically for web developers. It's meant to facilitate the creation of smooth, fast-loading web content. Bear in mind that there's a vast pool of people out there that use photoshop for other-than-photographic purposes.

I think when you use save for web it is actually using image ready.
I could be wrong but I think thats it. |

I use it for exporting sliced design layouts for websites and creating animated banners / buttons / rollovers. |

Large images used on the web are often split into "slices", each of which is tagged separately, so they are in 2, 3, 4 or more parts, and each part is loading separately at the same time; it allows the complete image to load faster.
