I just got this lens and had to try it out. Of course I couldn't pick an easy subject. I thought some of you might like to see how it worked.

This is straight from camera 1/250, f:5, With on-board flash.

A 100% crop with level adj, contrast, and USM.

This one is Straight from camera 1/640, f:5, No flash.

And last this one is 100% crop with level adjustment, contrast adjustment, and USM.

Both of these of course were hand held and with manual focus.

great pics, a bit over sharpened. you might want to push the speed up to 1/1000 for flying insects, so you get the wings perfectly frozen :)

Weird, the details look kind of muddy. Why is that?

Why not? It had a great review in AP magazine in the UK a couple of weeks ago. Not cheap though.

Those weren't taken at 1:1. The lens has to be set for 1:1 magnification. It's a true macro with the 1:1 magnification activated.

This shot will help show this setting. The first is full frame while the second is at 100% crop.
Taken on tripod at 1/25 and f:2.8.

I'm not sure what you mean by muddy details???
