I'm on the run for a DSLr now and this lens have showed up. I'll probably be working with portraits in the beginning so I can have some income from it.
Would this be a good lens to start with?
Any other thoughts?
I mean, I'm kinda lost on this world full of lenses. Any help would be good!

I don't know about that lens. However, I remember reading that the Canon doesn't support F3.8, so if you are using this on a rebel, you will actually only get F4 as your wide open stop.

I am not sure what other thoughts you wanted, since it looks like you've already bought the lens, but why this lens instead of one with wider range, like the Sigma 18-125 F3.5/5.6, or the newer 18-200 from Sigma or Tamron.

Or why not the well thought of, faster but shorter range, Tamron 28-75 F2.8?

Depends on what you do, but 5.6 is awfull slow.

Haven't bought it yet! These are pics from the seller.
It'll be used with a canon camera (350D). Still won't support F3.8?
I'll also consider the 18-200 as well.

That's the type of "thought" I was expecting :-)

so you don't have the camera, don't have the lens...and your already "factoring in" revenu from photography?

you have got to remember that the lens on the camera is like the eyes in your head.

5.6f @ 150mm to me is slow. there are better lens sets out there that are faster, sharper, but yet more expensive. I am saving money for a 100-400mm ef/l canon which is a 5.6f @ 400mm. My current lens is a sigma 100-300mm @ 6.8f racked.

see what I mean, that lens you want is slow. make sure your light levels are high.

well, are you generating revenu with your actual camera? if so, then yes! If not, how do you envision a camera and lens will become revenu generating?
