After doing research to buy a new SLR-like cam, I found that the 5 MP Panasonic DMC-FZ20 has some spectacular features:
Large Optical Zoom (12x)
Image stabilizer
Focus ring
Clear lens
Great price (~$500)
However, a lot of shots of this cam posted here on DP and other sites appear weak in color and dark at certain spots. Also, many reviews I have read says noise is very noticible above 200 ISO. Are these symptoms due to the camera itself, or just poor photography? Check out the photos I'm referring to:

The FZ20 is my most likely choice at this point, but if the color and noise are serious problems then I might reconsider. If anyone knows of other great cameras with the above mentioned features please share! Thanks in advance.

The FZ20 is, IMHO, a very good camera for the price. Sure you can find cameras that people say do color better, and ones that have less noise. I haven't noticed any shortcomings of it's color rendition. The noise does get objectionable at levels where other cameras perform well, but you learn to live with that, to shoot at the lower settings. And it is easily addressed in post processing. I bought mine when they first came out and kept it even after getting a 20D in December. I still use it when I get tired of carrying the bag full of DSLR stuff around. Your S1 is also a very good camera with many of the same features but less megapixels. Any camera you purchase is going to be a compromise in one way or another. It may not be your cup of tea but the FZ20 is a very capable digicam and can produce excellent images.
