A good news! There's going to be a phographic marathon (the 14th edition) in Lisbon, organized by the city hall and the portuguese Association of Photographic Art.
The bad news is that they discriminate digital photography. In the past year there where many people with digital cameras so this year they've created a category for digital photographers. So there are 3 categories: coulor film, b&w film, and digital. for the first two the prizes are: 1º-2000 euros; 2º-1500 euros; 3º-1000 euros. Plus a special participation price for the next 16. For the digital it is: 1º-1500; 2º-1000; 3º-500 euros. This is discrimination or what?
As if a digital photographer is any less that a film one. Not that I think only in this terms, but if you get a Nikon D2X (witch is about 5000 euros just the body around here), you are less capable of doing quality photos than someone that has a compact film camera that costed 150 euros. I know that the shooting capabilities aren't in the camera but in the eyes of the beholder... but if so... Why discriminate digital?
But anyway here's the link for the regulation ( in portuguese) if some portuguese dpc's want to participate. Discriminated or not.

I think the prizes should be the same -- not sure why they don't consider digital as 'worthy' as film, but to each their own. I think just about all photographers have made the conversion to digital -- and maybe still have their film cameras sitting by for when they get the urge.
When's the last time you saw a film camera on the sidelines of an NFL game? Or how about at a press conference? There might still be a couple, but in this day and age, you shoot film, you lose. While everyone else is uploading their images durring half-time or directly after the game, you still have to brave traffic on the way home, develop your film, then submit -- and when it comes to things like that, even 10 minutes matter. People are looking for the images right away, not a half-hour later (and a half-hour is being very lenient, obviously).
Not to mention, what's easier to carry along on a trip -- 20 rolls of film, that you have to worry about exposing to heat or water...or an extra memory card in a sealed, weatherproof case?

24 hours of continuos shooting. In each 4 hours you'll have to be in the next check poit to get the photographic mood/issue for the next 4 hours. Almout a rally paper I gess. I've never entered, but I will give it a try.
