Justin, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your photo editing technique on this one. What steps are you taking to get such wonderfully subdued colors?

I just had my original photo then duplicated the layer, put a yellowish orange tone on top, and lowered the opacity until i got those colors...then i dodged and burned just a tiny bit...finally USM..hope that helps

*edit*- and some brightness contrast too

I have used a technique where I create a hue/sat layer, clicked on the colorize option, adjusted the hue/sat to where I want it, but then after saving it, I've lowered the opacity of the layer. That way I subtly colorize the picture overall but still get subdued "real" colors coming through.

Does that match up with what you are describing at all? How are you adding the tint?

The blue sky against the green of the cactus was great here, not sure I captured it:

Again, much more beautiful in reality than my capture:

And here is an original + edit (decompose, etc):

I first entered the rose picture, then changed my mind to the crucifix, and now have changed my mind to something completely different, so I am posting my outtakes here so I know I can't change my mind again LOL.

Shannon, I think the rose picture could have been nice had the focus been somewhat better.

Here are two of my outtakes for the challenge:
