Is it legal to add a canvas of 40 or more cm to a photo?
Or is it adding things to the photo?

I think you need to clarify your question:
Is it legal to add a canvas of 40 or more cm to a photo?
Or is it adding things to the photo?

I looked at my ruler just to be sure an 40cm is a large space. |

As I understand it, it is OK as long as the addition is to be used as a border and not a major element and should be distinguishable from the image in the photograph. To err on the side of caution you may want to email a SC member and ask them to review it before entering. If you plan on entering it in a challenge.

Yes it is... :)
I asked if it was possible to add a canvas of 40 cm or if it was considered adding elements to the photo. is it better? :)

You can add Canvas in almost any amount as long as it is forming a border and not part of the photo background. |

It would not be to use as a border.
The canvas would be the same color as the background of the photo.
