Here's a shot I took on Saturday at sunrise. I took it from my favorite view point in Los Angeles. I know this photo borders on being a cliche, but I love the views from Mulholland Drive....even the views of the San Fernando Valley side (where I live). Please share your favorite views of the city. The more obscure the better!
(I have others in my portfolio too)

My favorite is not one I've been able to photography yet. It's looking at downtown from the South (looking North) toward Dodger's stadium. You see all of downtown with the mountains and snow caps in the background. I don't know where photographers go to photograph this one, but I want to find that spot! I also love to photograph from Mulholland where you were (that first picture). Great view there!
//www.mirdonamy.com/photoalbummain.php?albumName=phtravel are my photos from LA and beyond!

tunnelmuck,
very nice shots. I'm not a paying member so I can't post, plus I'm too lazy. You should join us around LA when we go shooting.

Yes, definitely join us! We try to get together once a month (if not more). So, please keep an eye out for the LA Area DPC Meet-Up threads! :)

One of the best views of Los Angeles is from the 7th street bridge.
But I wouldn't recommend that you bring your camera.

Gringo,
Here's the view from the top of the building I work in on 7th Street... but it's a view of the 6th Street bridge not the 7th Street Bridge. It's a photo of the cutterhead of a tunnel boring machine being removed from a 100-ft deep hole in the ground.
Ram21,
Great shot! I've always wanted to set up on that bridge at night. Now I just might have to try. Hopefully I'll get a shot as good as yours.

Does anybody know of any buildings in LA that have observation floors? The Trans America building (the tall lonely building south of downtown and a few blocks east of Staples) used to have one. I think there's still a restaurant on top of the building. But anyway.... I took these shots from the top of City Hall after a meeting on the 26th floor.

Great shot of the area there Tummelmuck. I've been only about a half block away from you most of this week. It's weird to think we could walk right past other DPC members and not even know it. I think I sat right next to you at Subways for lunch. |

Tunnelmuck, where is that viewpoint you took that shot at? I just drove up Mullholland a little bit at 4 this morning before work and couldn't find it. I did see Runyon park on Mullholland but was all fenced off, and went only about another 1/4 mile past that. Should I have kept going West? Great shot by the way! |

It's between Runyon Canyon and the 101. It's a lookout that is closed from sunset to sunrise. Fortunately, last Saturday morning the park ranger opened the gate a half hour before sunrise.
Here's a map for you.
Also...another GREAT drive and view can be had on a clear day in the hills above Malibu on Saddle Peak Road, Stunt Rd, and Tuna Canyon Road. Here's another map and some samples of the view in my portfolio folder called "above Malibu". The photos aren't great because it was slightly hazy the day I went up there, but they will give you an idea of the view almost 3,000 ft above the Pacific Ocean between Malibu and the western end of the SFV.

Thanks Mike, that's exactly where I thought it was, couldn't get there though. They have it pretty well fenced off from what I saw, but maybe I can find a way to hike around it if I bring along my big flaghlight. I go into work WAY before sunrise and sometimes if I get an early start I'll take some night shots somewhere. Your thread here got me really excited to do some night "view" shots.
I haven't seen your photos yet, I'll check out that Malibu drive for sure, that sounds really cool. Thanks for all the great info! |

de nada. i just wanted to spur a discussion where people shared their favorite spots....especialy for night shots. Downtown can be sketchy after dark, but it's such a cool city to shoot.

I was going to try some at the Griffith Observatory this weekend at night, but just found out online that it's closed for renovation. That view is awesome up there! |
