a few voiced that i "over processed" my image

here is the [shrunk] original

this is a holding dam on the Rideau River durring spring runoff
with a 3 sec exposure at high noon
shooting blind (i tape over the view finder so stray light doesn't mess the infrared image)
over processed ? i don't think so -
& if you thought so, ask for a DQ
jezzz...

I wouldn´t take it so personally if I were you, they are just opinions and feel free to ignore them. There is a difference from being "over processed" and "illegally processed" so that´s probably why no one requested a DQ, they were just giving you hints about how they feel about the (or what they perceived to be) post processing. I would just take it as that the people that didn´t care for the look on the image were commenting on just that, they didn´t like the look.

First time I have seen this image so I can say that I am not one of those people, I like the look and it´s good to see the original, it makes sense now on how you got that effect in the sky and water. Keep up the good work.

As a person who gets the "too processed" remark frequently, I can sympathize.

I agree with larus on this don't take it so personally. I know when voting is going on you can't see the info but instead of just "infared" in your comments section I would suggest you put as much info there then we can all make an educated decision as to if it was overprocessed or not. As of now you have yet to list anything done except the fact that you taped over the viewfinder.

Dude! you got a lot of complimentary comments that didn't mention processing, and ya finished in the top twenty. Congratulations.

I think people say "looks over-processed" when they don't know the full extent of what they can do within basic rules, and in-camera.

I wonder how much of those 'errors in re-sizing' are down to the very small file-size Ralph? You must, inevitably, have lost a great deal of information presenting it at 30Kb ...

When someone says on an entry of mine "looks overprocessed" I mentally translate that to "doesn't look 'real'". There is a significant slice of DPCers that isn't ruly happy (or impressed) with any image that doesn't look natural to them. It's a personal aesthetic bias, and they are entitled to it. Anytime you shoot with IR you are gonna encounter this reaction. You got a top-20 for gawdsake. Don't worry about it.

Also, who knows HOW far up the ladder you could have gone if you'd saved this image at the maximum allowable size of 150kb? This is something you have GOT to start doing.

yes yes mea culpa
thank you all for the kind words & comments
i dont mean to sound unhappy - I am very pleased

but occasional comments this week have got my blood boiling
(i won't talk about Extreme Action ; yet ... )

i been saving the image through NikonCapture / rather than switching programs
that is a likly cause of alot of jpg artifact ...

lesson learned ..
