Shot this guy in Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve:

It's a wetland area near Jones Beach, on the south shore of Long Island, 24 miles east of Manhattan.

I'm sure it's a common bird, but I know very little about birds. I'd like to know the species to use for the title of the shot.

Thanks,
Ara

Don't think it's a flycatcher, seems much too large and not the same markings. Looks familiar but I cannot place it.

About how big was it? Did it always hold it's tail feathers cocked upward as in your picture?

Looks like a mockingbird to me. State bird of Texas.

Thanks, guys!

It seemed a bit heftier and more substantial than the shots in Justine's link. It was bigger than a sparrow but smaller in body than a starling. It didn't always have its tailfeathers up, but it wasn't jerking them up and down repeatedly. So, definitely mockingbird?
