I have a couple days before I go....
Tell me please, if you will, what is your most memorable wedding shot.
It could be one you've taken.
It could be one taken of you.
It could be one you've seen.
I'm headed for the US Virgin Islands for my (dear) cousin's wedding--on the beach--at sunset. There will be plenty of opportunities for candid/photo-journalistic style shots--but I think there will also be opportunities to "direct" the couple for a few special shots.
What do you think could be a most memorable (directed) shot?
--or--
What do could you advise me to be on the look-out for?
NOTE: No answer will go dis-regarded. I'll post pics after I get back taken by your suggestions.
Thank you, in advance....

I have a couple of snapshots from a recent family wedding. This is my fave, by far. This is before the wedding, no alcohol just 2 good friends having a giggle. Even though the contrast etc is bad, i like their expressions.
As far as what to look for, i like a combination of very candid and romantic. Sounds like you have the best of locations so i suggest use that for sure.

As for the best of locations....
1. Happy to be able to vacation there.
2. Happy to be asked to be "the" photographer--knowing that there will be other cameras.
3. Am conflicted over wedding:
3.a. Bride and groom in tradtional garb--white gown and white suit on white beach
3.b. At sunset--light good, then bad
3.c. Mothers of groom and bride in sequins on dark dresses
3.d. Is formal--yet! casual.
ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH.....
(I know, poor Kadi, she has to go to a tropical paradise...and take pictures...all the pressure....oooooo!?) |

Shameless bump.
There must be more than 2 people who are happy with their wedding photos, no? |

Here are some shots from the ONLY wedding I've ever taken pictures at. Admittedly this was before I really started getting used to my camera, so the quality isn't that good.
The Bride was taking a break here.
And the obligatory accidental shot.
This one is extra bad though.

I had friends get married on a beach last labor day, and one of the best photos was of their feet in the water, and of them playing in the shallows of the waves. |

Thank you, all! I'm feeling inspired.
I plan to take some pocket-sized prints for inspiration:
Definitely taking this oneof MK's to remind me that DOF is ever so important. What a lovely portrait of a hand!
It seems that a creative shot of rings will be memorable, so I'm taking this (Travis99)and this (NathanW) to remind me that there are many ways to accomplish it.
So I can get the couple to understand my vision when I ask them to pose someplace unusual and to remind me to experiment with angles and framing I'm taking these: (jesuispeure) and (grigrigirl)
Thanks to CBalck I'll try to get the couple to play in the waves and try for a feet shot.
And I'll take this one too--but I'd rather just pack crabappl3. :)
Any more inspired photos I can pack? |

sofap: "time" check--at least I'm taking the time, time to go, time to consider pics, time to relax...(after all, it's not me who's making a life-commitment).
notonline: Love the gaze--and I think that's an important look to go for, that one moment when, for them, the rest of the world melts away. (Not sure they'll have any dry ice around, but, hey, ya never know...)
Less than 36 hours left, anyone else?

Cheesy is good! (Sometimes, and at least for most of my family.) I've never met any of the bride's family, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it might be possible in this case. At minimum, it's a possible ice-breaker when talking to the father of the bride.
Thanks! |

I have shot four weddings. The best shot came from this last one. I am poised on one knee looking up towards the front withe the preacher and the entire bridal party. All of a sudden at this incredibly formal moment the bride looks out at everyone with this big-assed grin that screams "Hot shit! I finally got him!"
It was the best impromptu shot I have ever gotten.
