Talk about a gruesome realization in a photograph. There's a part of me that's really curious to see the shot, though...
Reuters story:
Woman Photographs Swan, Finds Hand Stuck in Ice
Thu Apr 7, 9:12 AM ET
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A Swedish woman who photographed a swan in the river outside the royal palace in Stockholm made a grim discovery when the film was developed: a hand sticking out of the ice.
Newspaper Aftonbladet said on its Web Site that Marita Larsson was walking around Stockholm's Old Town in early March and took a photo of a swan on the river as a spring thaw melted the ice.
"It was only when I came home and developed the film that I saw there was something particular about the picture. When I had it blown up I saw there was a hand sticking out of the ice," she told the newspaper.
A spokesman for Stockholm police said the hand might be that of a man who committed suicide in late January and whose body has not yet been found.
Police last week also fished various body parts of a woman, including the head and hands, out of the river, and are still trying to identify her.

I think the movie Blow-Up was based on a similar theme.

| An entire body was found frozen in the Bow River in Calgary about a month ago. To keep it intact the police used hair dryers to retrieve it - seriously. If it didn't involve a young guy being murdered it would've been comical. |

That'll teach her to not pay attention to distracting background elements.

hopefully it was an advanced rules challenge so she can clone stamp out the hand.

Wouldn't you consider a hand sticking out a major element? That sure adds to the photo, and would almost be considered a secondary subject to some.

| Did they find the sword that the hand was holding? |

I'd have to agree, cloning out the hand would definately be grounds for a dq, I could just see the comments now:
"Beautiful picture, though the hand sticking out of the ice is a bit distracting" |

| I think the composition would be better if the frozen hand were on the other side of the photo, and it could use a little more saturation. |

Is it possible that DPC leads to perversion?

Didn't see the picture, but sound like a cheap ploy to advertise a second hand store.

This thread is too much :)
Did anyone call the swan in for questioning? |

Soundslike a set up with a swan decoy and a skin diver and her assistant did not get out of the way completely and she is covering her inattention by claiming a mystery hand. It's an old ploy.

Right you are, excellent movie. Another themed around photography is The Conversation starring Gene Hackman. Both of them are the kind of film where you see more each time you watch them again, by two of the best directors ever, Antonioni and Ford-Coppola respectively

No, the sword was a Star Trek sword and the person had borrowed it from Laurie's husband....he immidiately took it back before anyone found the body.

| What's so unusual about a photo of a swan and a wave? |

well.. if I had taken the pictures and discovered the hand, I´d go back to take more pictures.. even take some props with me to make the picture more interesting.. like the movie "weekend at Bernie´s" ..
I know it sounds pervertive.. but the hand is already dead.. and most likely the person attached or detached.. so what´s the harm to shoot some more before calling the police..
might even get some nice shots.. let the hand hold something precious.. like a lit cigarette or something ;) |
