Is this, in fact, a bullfrog?

It would appear to be a bullfrog, yes. Almost certainly is a bullfrog if you shot it in Eastern New Yourk area, which it looks like might be where you live, based on the architectural shots in your profile.

Thanks. Yup, I shot it in Harriman State Park, about 40 miles north of NYC.

Figured as much. There's only two big frogs indigenous to that area; the bullfrog and the spotted tree frog; and he sure as hell isn't the latter :-) The only thing that puts me off is the circle mark; I can't recall seeing that before, but I'm not really up-to-date on amphibians...

Looks like an ear to me Robert, but not unlike you I am also not up-to-date on amphibians.

*I* think it's a target, and the poor frog escaped from a "Frogger" game console...

Acually, you're both wrong, it's a landing pad for mosquitoes. =] I have a shot with one jabbing his sucker right in there (other side) ...

Well, there we have it; it's the frog's ear, and it's not really marked with a dark circle, it just looked that way in the other photo, I guess. Bullfrog it is. I'm sure of it.
