Hey, I remembered I had this pic I took awhile back, wanted to hear if you guys liked it. Rating out of 10?

Always depends on the Challenge topic. Pick a challenge, give the image a title and I'll give you a score...

Ansel Adams, because I can't think of anything better for a challenge.

"Losing the Race Against Time" Yea, joke of a title, too.

Does that help?

Maybe it's because I live in the Midwest and see stuff like this all the time, but I don't find this particularly interesting. The DOF encompasses most of the image, so the picture doesn't provide any technical cues telling me where to direct my attention. There aren't any strong compositional cues which indicate what I should be looking at either. At first glance the crows nest (the pole with the fence at the top) drew my attention but I found nothing of interest there. My eyes then took the following path:
1. followed the slope of the roof toward the top right corner
2. moved down the silo along the right edge of the image
3. to the white doors (bottom center)
4. up the tall building
5. down the roof toward the bottom left of the image
Still nothing jumped out at me as noteworthy. Had I been voting on this image in a challenge, at this point I'd have given you a 5 and moved on (if the content seemed too far off-topic I'd re-read the title and scan the picture again to see if I missed anything, then dock you a point or two).

There's nothing wrong with this image per se, it's just that nothing in it grabs my attention. I see no obvious reason why it was taken and I'd rate it as average (+-5).

I can't give a better critique than metoecus (t y p i n g - h i s - u s e r n a m e - r e a l - s l o w - trying to pronounce it).

For the Ansel Adams challenge, specifically, I would score it lower than perhaps another because it just isn't very dramatic. Not real interesting. I travel across the state once or twice a year and see stuff like this and I have stopped to take pictures, only to get home, look at them and think... well think just what m e t o e c u s said. ;-)

Also - regarding the title - to me, titles can help, hurt or have no effect on the image. This image is not delapidated enough for the title to be immediately understandable - if that's what you were going for. If it meant something else, I missed it - obsolescence maybe?

On a more positive note, I am betting you could get more interesting angles and shots of this place if you still have access to it.

Great feedback, thanks!

I was afraid that it was too simple. I guess you can sorta see all there is to see in one quick glance.

Yea, the title is crap, I tried to come up with something stunning, but wanted to get some reviews before noon today.

The elevator is just down the street, if it ever stops raining I'll go take a second look and try and find some new angles.

Thanks!
