Im sure if the DPC SC see this as a threat to their kingdom they will remove this post and maybe even suspend my membership.
but i doubt it very much.. |
Wow! Lambasted! Didn't sound like totaldis was slandering you. Technically, he is right - you are starting a website to discuss and critique photos. Just because DPC's is currently better or more popular or been around longer, doesn't make his statement incorrect.
It doesn't bother me, but it would if I was DPC staff.
My 2 cents. :) |

I think what Marac is saying is that he could never build a community like DPC with what he has done. I am not for or against what you are doing. I am happy here and plan on staying. Not looking for anything else. I did take a look and think you have done a good job. However the $45 a year sub. fee is quite steep don't you think?
This is just my opinion.

I think it's fine, competition never hurt anybody, and I personally think it's just another place to get together and critique. However, through nobody's fault, anybody who reads any of the posts in this message will probably avoid the site. Bummer, I hope you can build a decent enough site, but remember that the loyalty of these photographers will remain here, and it would be unwise to try and sway them from that.

Got sneak-posted, dangit, took too long typing again...
Yea, that $45 fee is pretty high, I wouldn't pay it. You might have better luck if you drop it altogether, especially while youre starting up.

A year or two ago a DPC member started his own photo competition/forum site and used emails displayed on DPC to solicit people to join his site. Mentioning it in the forums isnt as bad but I think the bad taste is still there for some people.
You may want to look at Coppermine. It is a gallery software that intergrates into nuke and is commonly used by a lot of other photography forums. You should make sure you check the licensing agreement, though, since you plan on having a commercial pay site. |

Removed? I thought we were going to have a nice discussion on this! Fine, I guess we don't have to, but I just know that we're gonna have this problem again in the future!
Oh, about the spamming thing, I'd agree that what the other person did was bad, but I think that this post is the same as if you put up a link to a portfolio or something

Thats the type of advice and help i was looking for thank you.
the $45 tag was put there by my friend who is trying to help set it up so I now removed that too after joe_cool said it was too high (my friend lives in the states he knows the $$ better than I).
Can I also add that it was/is not my intention to poach people away from anywhere it was more a post intended for people to offer help or even join in the chatroom there, I was never challenging your loyalties LOL.
I never knew about the e-mail poacher so I understand the bitter taste remains, however I also dont think it is fair to TAR ME with the same brush... I just wanted any help people could offer. my site is not a challenge site with rules or anything like that more of a site to discuss peoples work and how they could improve it, offering tips on PS and other software and not a regular weekly challenge. but yes people can comment about others work I want to do that on my site.
THANK YOU MOODVILLE I will check out that software. |

Thank you Joe for your support, yeh I removed the posts because I just dont want to offend anyone, I been sat at my desk for 18 hours trying to figure out, on my own, how to set this thing up, and I think I have recieved some positive input, I think I am tierd and maybe I took what totaldis said in the wrong contex but I am sure anyone who was daft enough to sit there for 18 hours trying to learn something like that with NO HELP would feel the same as I do now.. that said, I gonna jump in the bath and re-think my plan to take over the world (joking). but seriously though, I never knew how frustrating it can be to try to do this kind of thing, I can imagine even given the knowledge and correct tools it would still be a pain in the butt to set up.
Bathtime for me now, something I am VERY good at.. no offence intended to anyone especially DPC SC. as you can see I removed the links and posts due to that..
thank you. |
