Does anybody know much about these? I see on DPReview that Nikon is releasing 2 new ones.

I don't think anyone knows anything about how much they are going to cost.
Posting of the manuals for D50 and D70s on the german site was a mistake they say.

I was wondering if they would be equal to the new Canon XT but have the conveniences of the D70. From what I have heard from all of you, the Nikon gives you faster, outside access to a lot of your controls. Menus drive me nuts because they are harder to see and take longer. I guess I will just have to be patient and wait.

There's surely activity and the cameras will be out soon. I think the D50 will be a bit cheaper than D70 but I don't know what the story with D70s is. Probably just increased the size of the LCD.

From what I have heard and read the D70s upgrades over the D70 are a cable release socket, a 2" LCD screen and possibly a battery grip. Really the only news about the D50 is low price and 6.1 MP sensor.

Opps I forgot the D50 will use SD cards which eliminates it from my future:-(

News conference from Nikon in 7 days :)

Budget version for new dSLR users and an upgrade of the D70.

Nikon has recently register the "D50" as a trademark.

I've heard that the D50 will be a cheapened version of the D70 to compete with the Canon 350D. But sticking with a 6 megapixel sensor does not fire my imagination. My guess is that it will be an unqualified disaster, sales wise, for Nikon. They can't depend on the name recognition forever to carry an inferior product. If they choose to be truly competive then bigger with better features is the key.

Of course a cheaper version will eliminate even more competition from the 8 megapixel prosumer cameras as the >$1,000 has already done. They are also offering an upgrade to the D70, like the CanonXT to the 300D(D70s?).

The user manuals can still be downloaded from mirrors.

(Kinda slow).
I have a D70 and was curious about the D50. I couldn't really find many differences besides SD memory.
