I was going to submit this picture for the best of the month challenge. It was taken using the neat little Contax U4R in macro mode and apart from cropping it a bit this is pretty much how it came out the camera. It's the size of a credit card this thing so Im very impressed with it.
So let's see your cherry blossom pictures then ....

Nice shot, Marac! I took about a thousand cherry blossom pictures today all over Tokyo (Shinjuku Gyoen, Yasukuni Shrine, Imperial Palace) and will be going to the big park by our house (Inokashira Koen) tomorrow to take even more. Will post some here as soon as I go through them.

Give us a couple of days and the DC area folks should have something for you.

Well, you asked for them...
I went to Tokyo yesterday to see the van Gogh exhibition on at the Museum of Modern Art, then walked up through Kita no Maru Park past the Budokan, to Yasukuni Shrine.
The first one is actually in Utsunomiya, which I shot on the way to the station (before the clouds cleared). The last one isn't a cherry tree. |

Very nice pictures, as always, David. I just made it out to the Yasukuni Shrine and Imperial Palace area yesterday, as well as Shinjuku Gyoen Park. I'll post a few of those pictures here.
How was the van Gogh exhibit? I'm planning on checking that out too.

I added a couple more pics to my portfolio in response to one of Phil's - "Picnic Under the Cherry Trees". I was in the same park the day before.
The cherry tree on the left is the one that Phil stood under to take his picture.
Another glimpse of the roof of the Budokan. |

Yep, David's right. We were in the same park and I was standing right over by that tree when I took one of the photos above. The Prime Minister came today to the other park I went to and hosted a big cherry blossom viewing festival. If I had only known...
Here are a few more that I took today at the park near my house.

Good ones, Marac. Is that a bit of sensor shmutz on the one with the blue background? I just "cleaned" my sensor before going out this week and think I did more harm than good on the first pass. The second cleaning seems to have taken care of my own shmutz problems.

More nice shots, guys! Thanks for posting them. The RAW stuff seems to be working out for you, gibun.
Looks like the cherries are about done in Tokyo. It's supposed to start raining tonight and last for the next 3 days, which ought to wipe out all of the blossoms. But that's part of their appeal, how fragile they are and how short of a time they're bloom. Still, it was a perfect weekend for viewing cherry blossoms and it looks like a lot of people got some really nice pics while they lasted.
Any from D.C.? Have they been blooming there as well?

Thanks Philip, I'm looking foreward to next weekend when I will visit some areas in Korea where the cherry blossoms will be in ful bloom. Places like Yeoui-do, Changgyeonggung(ancient palace)and mountains are gearing up for some great opportunities.
