Some of you will remember GeeWhy's excellent challenge entry



Well I visited the Falkirk Wheel today and took some more shots
Those of you who posted on his challenge submission that you'd like to see how it worked may find these interesting. Quality and exposure isn't constant as I was having a tough day between overcast skies, rain and brilliant sunshine. (excuses excuses)



The barges sail along the higher level canal and into the boat lift. It then rotates while the boat also rotates and also remains level. The whole contraption does a 180 degree turn and is set up to go again. The barges can sail in or out from either above or below (it works in both directions).

A brilliant and impressive piece of engineering

p.s. The 3rd shot has an odd optical illusion making it appear to be on a slope. It isn't.

I saw the tv show about this, it is very interesting. Since I am on the engineering side of life...very impressive...lol.

Good shots Steve...glad to see the weather improved from yesterday.
I haven`t been up to the wheel for a while, but it has provided me with 2 or 3 submissions, the last being for the "yellow" challenge of all things.
I have quite a few shots lying in my folders that I haven`t looked at for a while...but have found these three.

wow, i'm just in aww of the engineering and design. that's simply amazing. oh, nice pics too.. =P
