Sorry for the "NoOb" question, but:
Is a speedring only a mount for a soft box, umbrella or whatever light diffuser u use?
Or does it have any other use?
And a modeling light, what does it do, combined to the flash mounted on the monolight?
All of the alien bees come with the flash and de modeling light? |

A speed ring is what the arms of the softbox connect to and what you connect to your light. A modeling light is an incandescent bulb inside the light to help you see what you're doing and to show what shadows you'll have.
All alienbees come with a common, standard 100 watt bulb already inside. It does not affect the picture in most cases, though in the low end of the B400, I suppose it could be visible.
Also, you must have a sync port or hot-shoe and adapter in order to use them correctly. Your W1 won't benefit from Alienbees.

Here's an explanation with photos and descriptions.
Lighting tutorial
All the AlienBees come with modeling lights but you have to purchase the speed rings separately.

I won't be using the W1 when I get the Alien Bees (or equivalent), I'll probably be using the new Rebel. But the W1 does offer a hotshoe thingie, as sony itself offers an external flash for my camera model.
Thx for the info guys..... |

The softboxes all come with speedrings. No need to buy them seperately. |

...or at least they're supposed to. I didn't get one and had to call them for it. Customer support was prompt and courteous though. |

I'm thinking of the "Busy bees" package as a studio setup.
Will I be short on anything, if I do acquire this package?
It won't be a home studio thingie..... |

Sounds like an awesome set up, it pretty much gives you a little of everything. Once you get it, you'll have plenty to play with. |

By a little of everything you mean? Few items?
It's a great deal for the price IMO, considering that if you buy each item separately it'll be a lot more expensive.
It's cz I'm planing on oppening a studio in a near future, and I'm stuying all possibilities. Biggest issue is the "dough" LoL. |

Ouch, just checked their delivery price. I'll cost me 870 bucks for the whole package to be sent to brasil!
Too expensive. Well, I guess i'll have to get a hold of some national lighting stuff. |
