This site was pointed out to me and I thought that it would be a really fun challenge to use the technique shown.

What do you think?

it looks fun, but i think due to the editing required, this would be better served as a 'thread' challenge, having people try it and contribute to the thread.

You may be right about the editing. It might be a fun message thread...probably should be moved/restarted elsewhere.

actually.. what kind of editing would be required? the final shot does not need any kind of editing...

you take a photo of whats behind your monitor.. then replace that as your background.. then take another photo of the result .. no editing here?

I'm not sure there would be a problem with the editing. I mean, at least it would be obvious that the pictures were on a monitor eh Mr Calvert? ; )

It's probably still best not to have it as a challenge though because I'd have to clean my desk ... scary thought!

i didn't say it was impossible ;-)
but, to really make it look good, you need the laptop as a second image on its own layer with its background transparent.

however you do it, it would be fun, but i don't see the wholesale dpc membership relishing it as one of the weekly challenges...but that's just my guess ;-)

OK maybe no prob with editing, but I'm contemplating moving my 21" Nokia - yikes! No wonder most are on laptops.

Ah.. to make it look flawless really..

The challenge on that site seemed to indicate that the difficulty was in taking a photo and actually lining it up with your background afterwards.. not editing to make it LOOK like you did it.. but actually doing it the hard way :)

Yup, definitely one for the laptop. Squeezing a stunning sunset/dodged & burned cloudscape/nekkid model behind the CRT would be a bit too tricky methinks.

I went through a few more pics on that site, and some DO have a bit more editing than others.. but i admire the ones in there without editing (tricks with layers, etc) much more. The one of the cat on the bed especially, since cats just dont stick around like that usually :)

Perhaps it is not clear that these images are all taken with a created onscreen wallpaper - so that when you are looking at the "desktop" the illusion of looking right through it to the background is created - and all the icons and less-than-fullscreen windows appear as if they are floating in space.

I'm going to move this to "individual photograph discussion", it seems more appropriate there...
