I just made a really cool Dungeons and Dragons Character and thought "how can I show how cool he is? I know! I'll make a picture of him!" So that's what I did. I took a picture of myself with a blanket on my head and hoped that nobody came in to talk to me while I was doing this. I really didn't feel like explaining that I was doing one childish thing for what some would consider another childish thing.
This only took me like 4 hours to make:

Here's the raw original I used to make it:

This one took me 6 hours or so and it's still not perfect. I would have worked more on the tattoo, for example, but I just got burnt out on it:

So I'm an old fart. D&D is that retro role play game that got a bunch of folks in trouble in the 80's, right? Didn't know it was still around. Shame on me! |

I've played the original, but my current group is playing version 3.5...not that that means anything, but for those who know/care.
Thanks deapee! |

Nova, this is great stuff! I enjoy the hell out of it. Have you made the "tatoo" as a separate element, an image of its own? Then you can import it into any image and use the warping tools to bend it and give it perspective to fit whatever use you wish to make of it...
Crank2o, this has nOTHING to do with RAW per se. you can do the exact same work from any original... In fact, I'm not 100% sure Nova even meant "RAW" original (as opposed to jpg); he may have meant "raw" as in "unaltered"... That's the way I took it...

Yep - I was in Electronics school in 1980 and knew a really smart guy who was prep'ing for Nuclear Power school and he got caught up in D&D and it consumed him. He played for 40 hours straight, never studied or did his class work. Eventually dropped out and ended up chipping paint for the next four years on an old frigate.

I rue the day when every three letter word has a format equivilant (you meant 'car?' I thought you meant '.car!').
No, bear is right. I meant raw as in "unaltered." Yeah. The tattoo is a separate element. I guess I'll have to go back and try warping it. I'm still pretty new at PS (I first touched it in September of last year) and I forget about warp in lieu of the liquify tool. For the shadow from the bow in the second one, that's what I did and got really lucky that the curves fell in pretty much the right places for it to look like the shadow matched the folds of the hood. The foliage shadow on him/me was done the same way.
kpriest: I can understand. I only do the marathon games in the summer. Right now, being at college, moderation is key. My group plays for about 4 hours a week--usually on Saturday night, but occasionally on Friday night. I also play Magic: The Gathering (Richard Garfield, the inventor, graduated from my college, I believe) which is produced by the same company. I have more difficulty controlling the time and money spend on that. I've cut myself off from ebay (I hope it works) and I'm limiting myself to the weekends and Monday nights when a group of us meets for a couple of hours and plays.
Then there's the days when I doodle around on photoshop for 8 hours straight...
Should I be going in for addiction control? I don't drink for that exact reason, actually... |
