Just a quick thought -- Your shadow under the deer isn't the same color or direction as the ones under the geese. It makes it stand out more.

I like the falcon staring at the geese, looks like he's about to attack

Hey Daniel

Great work for the most part - Boy since you asked for it I went over it like a teacher would -

The biggest flaw is making that goat blend in - Often difficult - one of the neat tricks I Like to use is the blur tool to blend it in the background - If It were me I would have not tried the shadow on that goat quite in that way - I would closely look at the natural shadows of the ones you are keeping - like the ducks - this is what you need for the goat - so I would not have copied the shadow at all from the original. Also it is important to keep the same focus look - I am not sure if the Eagle was part of an oringinal or not - but it looks sharper than the post it is standing on - Again the blur tool is awesome for this...

I hope this helps....

I would concur with ebertdj. Take the blur tool around the edges (get in real close) of the falcon and "goat" (ruminant of some kind-calf) to blend them into the background a little more.

thanx for the comment, actually that is a reindeer calf not a goat ;)

and the blue rope was on the background image, just didn´t delete it..

I have to take another shot at the image, any directions or tutorials would be helpful since I´m a beginner at photoshop..

There is one thing in favour of your photo: the lighting was dull - which means no harsh shadows and no obvious light direction - and it seems that all components of the picture were taken under the same conditions.

That is often one of the hardest things about such a montage - when the light is different, it's hard to make things blend in.

Have a look at these (better have high speed)

There are some beginning tutorials if you scroll down..

The first thing that comes to my mind is DOF. In a real image you have one point of focus with a DOF that is shallow or not. You have 3 point of focus wich are the ducks the goat and the eagle, for me this is the part that make it look a bit like a montage. other than that this is a good job.

great tutorials, but I´m not quite ready to pay $375 for some tutorials, I´d rather buy a good photoshop book with CD for $25 ;(

Do you still have the original, large image with all its layers intact? If so, select the main (ground) image as your source for the history brush and use it around the area where the reindeer overlaps things, in a soft brush with partial opacity, and merge him in better. Ditto for the eagle, his feet especially. The shadow isn't right at all, given the shadows elsewhere. You can dummy up some similar shadows with careful use of the burn tool, and also darken the reindeer's underbelly to approximate the same lighting as on the geese.

Hope htis helps.

You can at least check out the freebies - up to chapter 4 is free...

I was wondering how your test went?

aced the test :) got 9.5 out of 10 possible.

I had 80 minutes to take a picture of a famous building, put a new sky in the picture, take a picture of a sculpture and add it to the foreground, create a shadow and drop at the correct angle, then color adjust the image make it look real and turn it in.

I managed that.. 3 times, as the ""#$"#$ computer bluescreened on me when I tried to use gaussian blur so I lost my work and started over.. and it bluescreened again when I tried the gaussian blur.. on the third attempt I just used the blur tool and finished the image :)

there is a reason why I chose mac for photoediting ;)
