A friend is about to be in that area and I wanted to ask him to get me some good lens to my about-to-arrive Nikon D70.
If anyone in that area can recommend a good place, preferable a place that have some website where I can check on prices and stuff... I would be more then grateful!

Penn Camera in Washington DC is pretty much the largest "pro" shop in DC.

I dont know much about the Arlington area.

I always mail-order from Adorama and B&H, both of which are in New York City -- a mere 4 hour train ride. Perhaps your friend wants to take a weekend trip.

Alternately, if you have a local friend, they could recieve a package from Adorama and your friend could take the products home.

I have purchased from PennCamera. They a six store local chain with a website. Their stores are useful when you need something right away. However, I would agree with alanbataar that you may do better by dealing with one of the NYC stores. For the items that I personally have comparison shopped - you get a better price buying over the internet or over the telephone form B&H. When I buy from them I have to pay for shipping, at fairly high rates, but I avoid the 5% state sales tax that I'd have to pay if I bought at PennCamera.

Thank you for your suggestions. Do you have by any chance the URL of Penn's website? I couldn't find it (or maybe I just didn't know it was it?)
Anyway, getting something from NYC is not really an option at the moment since I don't have the time to have it shipped over to Washington (I've had some very bad experience with the Fedex 2 days shipment and I'm avoiding this for now)

What are you looking for? Penn has just about everything. My only problem tends to be the treatment I get when I go in as a customer. Penn has locations in both DC and Arlington. Downtown is probably your best bet. Keep in mind that a huge percentage of their stock is not out for display.

Here's Penn Camera

Another in DC area is Photography Center in Bethesda. I've only been there once. I think they lean heavily toward Nikon and away from Canon.

If Baltimore is not too far (about an hour by car) there is Cooper's Camera Mart, a local outfit with 2 stores; and the biggie where the pros shop is Service Photo.

There are probably some in the Virginia suburbs of DC but that's not my territory. And there are a dozen or more Ritz stores around the area, it's a big time national chain that got it's start long ago in this area. Not sure if they stock lenses at the local stores, maybe the more popular models, they tend to serve the p&s crowd more than pro photogs. The website might offer more lenses than the local branches:RitzCamera.com

If you go Ritz- the only location to go to is the downtown store on 18th Street and L NW. It's the Ultra store which carries one of everything.
