Here is the result of my efforts at Jupiter last night. Enjoy!

Nice, John! Was the seeing really that good last night? Now I'm sorry I stayed in, I was thinking about hauling the 'scope out but did not.
You got some great detail, much more than I've ever been able to bring out... I've never tried 100 exposures before either!

It was a beautiful night, but I was viewing from my driveway, so the seeing was affected by all the houses around me, etc., and Jupiter was not really high enough anyway. I'm too lazy to pack up and go out to my observing spots like I should for this sort of thing!

Hopefully by warm weather I'll have the drive working on mine, then we'll have to get together and do some observing.

It's all about stacking mutliple images in post processing Michael. No individual shot would be as good as the composite.

It's a date. We'll pick some middle ground between you and me (county park, etc.) and meet up.

Nice image of Jupiter and the Great Red Spot. It is also nice to see some astronomy nuts here. I'm an owner of an 8" dob, here in southern New England we have see nothing but clouds for the past 3 nights.

There are actually quite a few astro-nerds here, many of whom are quite accomplished photographers when not at the telescope also!

I have a telescope and a camera mount for it, but without a motor, haven't been able to take any long exposure photos to do planets. Can you explain, or direct me to website that explains, the technique you used?

The photos are great.

Sam, I've got a little info about the stacking process on my website, here, but you can find much more and better information by browsing the net for sites like this one.

Nice shots strangeghost.

Just waiting for my neighbour to get his kit sorted, the observatory is finished. He has the 14" Meade working nicely and has just taken delivery of a Takahashi scope. Don't know what model, think it is a 130mm. Checked it out when he unpacked it...a classy bit of kit!! Too expensive for me tho.

Hopefully, I will get him to post some pics once everything is sorted.

i just love space photography. You have done a great job with these. The observatory in Sydney is holding a special night in regards to saturn and jupiter. I would love to go. It just spins me out so much

If your neighbor doesn't have one, mount your Rebel on the Tak and take some pics (assuming it'll have a drive). Taks are great scopes and Rebels do a wonderful job with log exposures on faint deep sky objects.
