The Magicstor card is known to cause problems. Hitachi's Microdrives work fine, but they will drain your battery faster, and they're not nearly as rugged as solid state cards. Type 1 cards from Lexar, Sandisk, Kingston, etc. aren't that much more expensive. |

I've had a microdrive for 2 and a half years. Not a single lost file.
I have lost files from solid state cards. Go figure!
Microdrives do drain your batteries faster though.
Nowadays I use a pair of 512 CF cards though because I offload to a portable hard drive and the microdrive drains the battery on that too. What you go for depends entirely on your needs and budget, but I wouldn't say stay away.

Some people use the Hitachi cards without a problem, but I'd avoid them when similar solid state cards are about the same price. NewEgg has a 2Gb Kingston Elite Pro card for $140 shipped. I use a 2Gb Lexar card.
I'm going to try to make the second GTG at the end of April, but I'll have to check my schedule when I get back from vacation.

I've heard of people driving over solid state cards with their cars or running them through a washing machine without problems. These are extreme circumstances, but a Microdrive wouldn't survive that. |

I'll agree with that, are the prices really that close now? When I bought my 1GB microdrive I think the equivalent CF card was 3-4 times the cost!

I believe some cards survive being nailed to a tree too. Can't remember which though : )

Just make sure you buy 30x or faster, or your burst speeds and transfer rates will suffer on a 20D. |

Looks like they charge tax and the FedEx Saver shipping is 3-4 days. Still a good price though.

They charge tax for CA, TN and NJ residents. TLL061 is in New York.

I think those were the older cards, CF and SmartMedia. Remember though, they were using specialized data-recovery software/hardware to get that data back -- just putting the card back in the camera may not do it ... |
