The only time I was in the darkroom was for one semester in highschool in a graphics art class. I really liked photography then, but digital wasn't big yet and being interested in film could get expensive. Although I wouldn't mind picking up a film camera now cheap.

I do indeed miss the darkroom. That was "my" time. I also have to admit the digital darkroom is a tad more foreign to me. Not to mention all the software hocus pocus still seems a little like cheating to me. |

The dark room was the only room with a lock on it when I was mairred. So you know I spent a lot of time in "THE DARK"
Now my dark room sits unused for over a mounth no. I do most of my Art on the computer now. Fun yes, easer yes, but I still miss getting my hands in the supe.

Dark room fun is just beginning for me. I'm lucky enough to be getting a photography degree in college. My interest began with digital and now making the switch to film is really a lot of fun. It does require much more time and money but the end result is always something to be proud of. I just wish I could show some of them on here. |

Alot of the images on my web site were made in the dark bot color and b&w. If you have a web site link it show them that way.

I spend 4 hours every week in the darkroom so I get my fair share of toxic fumes :) |

First time in a darkroom was about 1970 with my Dad. (I thought it stunk at the time)
Had my own (makeshift) darkroom under the stairs, in the basement, through 1974. (still thought it stunk)
About 20 years ago, had my own (makeshift) darkroom, this time with a nice Bogen color enlarger, Rokkor lenses, Illford system, etc. in the garage. (still thought it stunk)
Now all my equipment is collecting dust in the (non-makeshift) garage, and that really does stink!
Longing for the solitude of the cool, dark place to escape to, where one could get lost for hours, walking out with objects in hand that were a joy to behold.

Bill & Jahn........I envy you!! Careers as commercial photographers, and you're doing it together. I could tell by the banter you two are best friends, as well as husband & wife and business partners. sigh. |

I know the feeling. My first time in the darkroom was like magic. That was when I was in 8th grade. Watching the print come to life in the developer was something that has never lost its charm.
When I was at the university I would go in the darkroom after my last class with the original intention of doing 1 print and find myself coming out later at 2:30 or 3 in the morning. I now sometimes have that same problem while working in Photoshop.

The wha' ? jeez! My altough I agree that there is a pleasure in spending time doing "physical" image manipulation....I can't even imaging doing commercial work in the darkroom in 2005... "you need that when?" |
