I came across an article on the Lightsphere and checked out the (minimal) website and i don't see how it works - anyone used one and can enlighten me? Also, is it as good as the hype?

Do some searches on lightsphere in the FredMiranda.com messsage boards, there are a couple of topics on it. |

I had looked at the website some time ago and I have some significant reservations as to whether it can live up to the marketing hype. It is not a bad idea, IMO. I've seen successful products that are based on a lot poorer ideas.

looks like a nice idea but rather on the expensive side ($40) considering it's basically just a slightly larger and round stofen omnibounce ($17), If they just tweaked the price down from ridiculous to silly I'd probably pick one up
edit: spelling

From what i can see in the pics, it looks to be a 2 litre pop bottle (in shape and size) and fits over teh flash head pointing strait up...and for low ceilings they say to add a lid/cover.
I'd like to see a poic or 3 of one of these things so i can make heads or tails of it.

There's a thread on the fredmiranda forums about taking plastic bathroom lighting fixtures (the 6" ones I think) and using them as cheap Home Depot Lightspheres. $6 a piece + duct tape.

If you're just taking pictures for yourself sure, but I wouldn't show up at a wedding with duct tape and a milk bottle on my flash.
