Hi, I am new to this site and was hoping you could help me out. Right now I have a Fuji Finepix S3000 that I want to upgrade. The features that I want in my new camera are: SLR-looking, at least 4MP, ability to manually focus, ability to have long exposure times (more then 1 sec), price between $350-$500, good macro ability, and hopefully run off of AA batteries.
My choices so far are either the Fuji Finepixs S5100 (which has an added feature of being able to use my current xD cards) and the HP 945. Are there any that I am missing? Any plus or minus on either one I mentioned?
Thanks for any help!
-Jordan

Welcome to dpc Jordan.
Get that Fuji S5100. You'll be pleased with the manual controls and there won't be a steep learning curve. You already know that a Fuji can output fine quality images.

Thanks. In reading more reviews it seems that people are saying the manual control is worthless on the S5100 cause you can't tell the focus range because of the small screen. Any truth to this from someone who has used it? On my Finepix S3000 there is no manual focus so I choose what I want to focus on and half depress the shutter button to see if it works. On the S5100 you can select from 49 different focus points. Seems like this would be more of a pain then it's worth?

Might wanna take a look at the Olympus E-10... has many of the features you want.

Jordan, I would go with the FujiFilm S5100 or the S7000, although, since the S7000 is a couple years old, I think Fujifilm will introduce a new model soon, so you are buying a bit older technology.

If manual focus is a high priority for you check out the Panasonic DMC-FZ20. It has one of the best manual focus systems you'll find on a non-DSLR camera. Here's what DPReview said about it: "Another feature popular with serious photographers is the proper manual focus system. Flick this switch to MF and you can use the knurled metal focus ring at the front of the lens barrel to manually focus. The focus ring is fluid-damped and a joy to use. A magnified area in the center of the preview screen helps critical focus." They gave it their best rating- "Highly Reccommended". I have this camera and am always impressed at how full-featured it is for the price. Here's the review- FZ20 at DPReview
