Set up the picture on a table or the floor. Put your rebel on a tripod and take a photo of it in even light. Then send me that. :)

When I have tried to use the cloning tool on my editing programs it comes out a little blotchy. also i run into lots of problems with his mouth since the photo is so damaged in that area. Any help would be nice.

Thanks

Mandy,

I'm having a reasonable amount of success restoring this photo, but I need to know a couple things.

It looks like there's some damage to the photo that runs across your father's face, effectively resulting in two different skin tones. Is the lighter or the darker tone more accurate?

Do you have, or can you obtain, a photo where your father's hat is more distinctly visible?

Thanks,
Terry

Mavrick, you did a great job, I am very impressed with all the restorations. I know the photo was very bad off It is over 25 years old and had been in a van that rolled and was covered in mud than sat in the van in a yard for a month....so needless to say its a fabulous to see any of it at all!!! I like that yours still looks like my dad! the mouth area is such a hard area that his features get very distorted every time its tried to work out, I still recognize your rendition as my dad!

thanks to all of you, I've really learned a lot!

That's my question too: which skin tone? And another; is mavrik's satisfactory enough that the rest of us needn't bother? it's a lot of work and I don't mind doing it, but I don't want to duplicate someone else's work if I don't need to. It's not liek I'm learning anything new, I've done a ton of these. It's just slow, painstaking work...

I will try to answer all of the questions :). First to bear music and terry my dads tone is the lighter one. To Bear_music you do not have to finish if you do not want to I would like to see what you came up with though. Mainly I wanted to do this to beable to give my father the photo. I have gotten a few good restorations to choose from thanks to all of you that have pitched in, also i wanted to learn a liitle myself and I have in so much as prior to posting this thread I had not meet any of you wonderful people and had never used my cloning tool or any of those other cool editing tools my various programs feature.

Again thank you all.

Okay all your PS gurus, here is one to challenge even the best.

My youngest daughter, taken 23 years ago and stuffed in a box of photos. I found it a few days ago and scanned it, but don't have the knowledge to repair it...any volunteers??

Steve

PS! My daughter wasn't stuffed in a box of photos! The photograph was!

I´ll give it a try, but I will need a much larger file then the image posted, there are no details in an image that´s only 150kb, if you can mail me the original scan preferably bigger then 2MB then I probably can make it like new :)
my email is dansig@hive.is and I´m on a 8mbit connection so speed isn´t a problem on my side :)

I have restored a couple of images. It takes a bit of patience. The website www.retouchpro.com may help you with tutorials.
I hope that this helps.
Good Luck to all
