My son just got an iPod 20 (4G) for his bar mitzvah, and he wants to get a case to protect it.

Any advice?

So far, he's considering the:
1) iSkin Evo 2
2) Marware CEO Classic

Do we need to worry about heat dissipation? Which would be better to protect and make this major investment last. Or are cases just unnecssary--maybe just a hoodskins protector?

Where's a good place to buy? They don't seem to have 4G cases on Amazon or Buy.com, and other places charge about $8 shipping, which is about 20% or more of the cost of the case!

Thanks in advance. Any other iPod care/usage advice would also be appreciated. It's an expensive device to give a 13 year old.

The iPod is so white and shinny that it draws significant attention, I suggest the following:

Get a $15 walkman and remove all the guts so the iPod fits inside. No one will try to take a tape walkman. Also get some non-white head phones, same reason.

I think the iPod will stand up well on it's own and I don't think there is any heat issues I know of.

I have an iSkin, but I never use it. The only case I use is iPod Armor. It's fairly expensive though.

LOL that's an awesome idea! I've got a black colorware (not the U2 one) ipod myself (I love being different!). People aren't used to seeing "naturally" black ipods.

Any suggestions from the morning crowd--I'm sure my son will want to order something tonight!

On the apple site, both cases we mentioned below got mixed user reviews. Something about the iskin evo clip being flimsy (though presumably improved on the evo 2, and because it's rubbery, it's hard to slip into your pocket. And mixed reviews on the Marware also--maybe lower than the iSkin. Some reviews said the Marware's scratched the ipod.

Looking at the Apple site, the Contour iSee for iPod with Click Wheel 20GB got really good reviews. Any opinions on that or other suggestions?

I've owned 3 iPods and have used cases from XtremeMac and Marware. My daughter currently uses one of the more elaborate Marware cases and though she likes it, I think it tends to get in the way of operation.

The one I currently use for my 20G 4G is a clear plastic dealie whose manufacturer I can't remember (search iPod lounge, it'll be there) and I love it. You just want something that will offer protection if dropped, is attractive, and doesn't block access to ports or controls.

I'm a huge fan of Vaja cases

www.vajacases.com

They fit the iPod like a glove, look stylish and come with or without the ultra clip

Sorry--last bump.

Anyone with good cases in the under $35 category?

This is the one I have for my 4th Gen 20, Neil. Can't beat it for $20.
