This time, they're supposed to have a warning system. I hope it works, and that they get people away in time.

However, not every earthquake at sea (actually very few) make a tsunami. We can only hope this is not one. News are still lacking information...

Its magnitude is 8.2. That is big... great earthquake sized and a tsunami is a distinct possibility according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

If a tsunami was produced people distant from it can still be warned, but it is already to late for people near the epicenter. Sadly, they were to close to be warned.

How long after the 12/26 quake was it before the tsunami hit?

I think just a few minutes for the land closest to the epicenter.

News on msn says no waves have yet developed. And it's been hours and hours. The warning system in Thailand did go off apparently, to warn and evacuate residents. I guess that's a good sign!

My thoughts go to everybody involved. Even without a tsunami, an 8.2 quake is still pretty devastating.

Over 200 dead so far from the quake.
