This time, they're supposed to have a warning system. I hope it works, and that they get people away in time.
However, not every earthquake at sea (actually very few) make a tsunami. We can only hope this is not one. News are still lacking information... |

The day after xmas day and now the day after Easter day. Spooky

Its magnitude is 8.2. That is big... great earthquake sized and a tsunami is a distinct possibility according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
If a tsunami was produced people distant from it can still be warned, but it is already to late for people near the epicenter. Sadly, they were to close to be warned.

I think just a few minutes for the land closest to the epicenter.

| News on msn says no waves have yet developed. And it's been hours and hours. The warning system in Thailand did go off apparently, to warn and evacuate residents. I guess that's a good sign! |

My thoughts go to everybody involved. Even without a tsunami, an 8.2 quake is still pretty devastating.
