Lets try this again so that I do not confuse you.

If you were in Mr.Shiavo's shoes, WOULD YOU LET YOUR SPOUSE STARVE TO DEATH?

YES or NO.

at least HE had the guts to make a choice...

Okay, sure, if you persist -- I'll answer your loaded, leading, incomplete, caricaturist, uninformed, juvenile and irrelevant question: yes, I'll starve my nonexistent spouse as soon as I have a break from the regularly scheduled beatings. Wow, I can't belive that anyone over 12 years of age resorts to this type of logic. Now, will you answer Ray's question, will you stop beating your spouse? Limit your response to a YES or NO answer -- anything else will be interpreted as a feeble attempt at skirting the question.

I've responded to a caricaturist scenario/question in kind.

Geepers, DSM, try not to get too condescending. Amateurs run the risk of straining muscles.

If, whatever-holy-or-unholy-powers-exist-forbid-that-I-should-find-myself-in-that-situation, after all the proper legal and ethical questions have been asked and answered, I say yes, what business is it of yours?

I responded to your question, what else do you want? Now, why don't you respond to my question?

Good, glad to hear that you'll stop beating your wife.

Many spouses have been and are in Mr. Schiavo's shoes, have done and will do exactly what he's doing -- BECASUE THEIR SPOUSES WANTED IT THAT WAY. I don't know why it's so difficult for some people to understand that.

Let use reverse the question and I will aswer it for you quickly and in all honesty.

If I were in Terri's shoes would I wish to be kept alive?

Answer:NO.

If I were in Terri's shoes would I rather starve for a week and a half and die rather then be poked, prodded, operated on, pee through a tube and shit myself for the next 20 years until my body rots in the bed and I die anyway probably under much worse circumstances?

Answer:YES

He sounds like a kid who likes to taunt caged animals or throw rocks and run away.

It's a difficult question to answer because, for one thing, we don't want to face the possibility that we'd have to make such a choice for a loved one, and doing so I'm sure, for most of us, would be fraught with guilt and conflicting feelings. But I don't see the point in answering the question in the abstract.

Son, you've got a long way to go before you earn the use of that level of condescension in your writing tone. Go home. I think I hear your mother calling.
03/28/2005 12:18:48 AM · #374
Why don't you be direct and to the point instead of evasive? Just tell us what's on your mind? Spit it out. You've already gotten three answers to your question.
The real point is that we can never really know how we will act in any given situation, especially as one as tragic as the Schiavo case. After 15 years, I imagine that Michael Schiavo has meditated on this question long and hard and so I respect what he's doing. Why can't you respect his decision to honor his wife's wishes?
