ok, i dont need to read the tutorial because i know how to resize..but when i set the width to 640 for certain photos it sets the height for 667...can anyone help?

Unless the image is being distorted, it appears the image is taller than it is wide. Setting the longest side to 640, and let the smaller side be determined by that, will produce images that are inside the 640x640 max.

Yes.
From the challenge rules:
File Format: JPEG (.jpg)
File Size: No larger than 150 KB (153,600 bytes).
Dimension: No dimension may be shorter than 160 pixels or longer than 640 pixels.

thanks but i got creamed on one of my photos being to small even though it was in the limit..i set this new photo at 600 and it looks bigger than all the other entires.

Yes, smaller photos do tend to get voted down. I believe most on here size their images to 640 on the longest size -- and many have gone to using square crops to get as large as possible and take full advantage of this.
