Thought the title might get you non tropical fish peeps intrigued? This guy is becoming a bit of trouble maker in my cichlid tank, just as well he is only 5cm long cos I'd dread to think of the damage he'd cause if he was any bigger!

I prefer a shallow dof with my fish pics, any comments?

The first one is terrific. Shallow DOF in tropicals is a real plus, to isolate the subject, as long as the subject itself falls within the focal range. Rarely does an image where the fish is only partly in focus work well, IMO; unless it's a straight-on headshot...

i have owned some cichlids myself over the past couple years - i don't know a ton, but i do know that pseudotropheus aren't exactly known for being nice and friendly. i actually just changed up my tank (and going back to do a little more) today, as my old inhabitants outgrew it and were getting at each other's throats (firemouth, peacock, and a possible red empress but that hasn't really been confirmed). the one that looked like the red empress tried sticking the peacock's head in its mouth whole a couple times! i kept my electric yellow, and then got a very young krib, peacock and ram. BEAUTIFUL fish btw, and very awesome shots as well - it took me a long time just to get an acceptable shot of mine, although it didn't look anywhere as good as these.

I haven't kept cichlids, so I know nothing about dispositons, but this guy looks guilty as he!!, LOL.
I really like the first photo, the complementary blues and yellows are nice,a nd the shallow DoF works for me here. I might raise the exposure just a bit. I don't mind the grain at all, it is very subtle.
