UPDATE:
Images finally edited, and here are the best ones...

------------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier post....

So I had the opportunity to go to the Dealer's Dinner last night, as my friends father is the VP of the Auto Association of New York. Had a WONDERFUL time looking around at all the beautiful new cars in an intimate environment, and I took over 130 photos. I have two of them uploaded now...unfortunately there's this place called work that I had to go to this morning...so the rest (the best) I'll post later.

This one is a Ford, and it is completely reflective. I have a feeling it's a Concept car, because in the dead of summer, this car would be blinding. I had trouble looking at it in the building, let alone at high-noon!

With this one, I've seen pictures where people start with the subject zoomed in and then zoom out while the shutter is open, do get a pinched or moving effect. I didn't have my tripod with me, so it's not tack sharp, but this is one of the better of the bunch.

Comments critiques welcomed.

Lighting was difficult as I didn't use the flash in most shots - didn't want it bouncing back at me. But I used ISO 400 to minimize grain, and an fstop of from 4.0 to 5.6.

You are lucky to have gone without the crowds! I have ordered tickets in advance and I'll be there in a couple hours taking shots. This will be my first time going there with the Rebel so I am pretty excited --- it's a fun place.

It is very difficult to photograph with thousands of people there, but I'll do my best. Either way it's a great experience.

Left you a comment too :)

The aluminum car is a concept. i have seen motorcycles amlmost all polished up though...no fun in the sun!

I like the zoom effect - what lens? How long a shutter speed? I tried one or two but i need a longer shutter speed i think. The 10D could probably do ISO 800 without much issue and you can always use Neatimage to clean up the noise.

i found out after the auto show here i could maybe have attended a night like you did - there was a fundraiser black tie affair and my wife's company was one of the beneficiaries. Prolly would have cost me $200 though!

Yeah - looking at the photos though that I have, there is some grain even at an ISO of 400. I don't know if that's because of the lense, or the body, but I don't imagine it should be from the lense (Sigma 18mm - 125mm Wide Angle Zoom), nor SHOULD it be from the camera. I don't know...Really want the 20D, I hear it's better with the higher ISO settings.

For the picture of the Corvette, I had the Shutter speed set initially to 1/2 or 1/4, with the Apeture stopped down as far as it would go, mostly to 22. For other shots, I tried 2 seconds, but when I was turning the zoom, the camera would move to much and the light streaks from lights got all warbly...I'll have to see what I can do with them.

Tranquil: Have fun at the autoshow today! There are some AMAZING cars out there. I want the new Honda Ridgeline truck. After this winter, I refuse to have an economy car. LOL.

unfortunately, I doubt it. My luck never goes that way. LOL.

Thanks for the comments, BTW.

Hi Stephanie,

Both shots are pretty interesting. The concept car is a huge challenge in itself, being nothing but reflections. I doubt you would ever be able to capture it the way your eyes saw it, and you have done well with it as it is, except as you noted with the highlights. Make it abstract when in doubt - LOL.

I did one of those zoom time exposures in a challenge here and was the first time I ever tried one:

1 second, ISO80 @F11.0
Trial and error and a bunch of takes is the only way. I didn't have a tripod and hand-held mine, and in a word, came out lucky.

I actually have quite a few shots of the concept car, this is the only one I had an opportunity to edit last night, but I'll post more later. I think I actually got some great shots.

Your Neon shot is wonderfully done. Unfortunately my ISO doesn't go below 100, but I didn't even think of bringing it down even to 200 for the shot. I'll have to remember that, and of course, keep trying. :)

Thanks for the comment.

I shot these at the auto show out west. What lens were you using? Lighting is tough, the shots look a little soft/under exposed. These shots were taken with the 20D, 50mm 1.8 @ f2.8, iso 1600, no noise reduction program used. Little ps work. Just to give you an idea how much I love my 20D. I wish the GT had the hood opened like yours.

Even at those settings, my shots are a little soft too.

I don't think my pics are underexposed at all - They're majorly edited, because I love high-contrast...I was using my 10D with a Sigma 18mm-125 wide angle zoom on 400ISO at 4.0 - 5.6

I have similar car shots... This is my fifth straight year going, but now with some camera knowledge, I was trying to look for unique angles.

This is my favorite car shot from yesterday:

My best show however came from one of those flower displays ;)

Fun show :)
