my first impression is that I like them....I like the tones of the first one....and the texture of the second.
They give me the impression of a tangible thing in an abstract context.....which is cool.

Hi! The first one seems a bit overdone, I like the view of the second, and the sepia works well too IMO |

I understand that you are bored with PS (I know the feeling lol,and I am not an expert either),but be patient and read the tutorials on DPC,and soon you'll see the improvement! I think you are on the right track!:)

I love the second one. My girlfriend took a photo very much like that one but I have not had time to play with it in PS and was not really sure what to do with it. Thanks for the insperation. |

I like the first one alot. The sky might be a bit too blown out, but I realize that was the look you were going for. It just grabs so much attention away from the beach.

PS is an amazing thing isn't it? I agree about the sky in the 1st one, it is overpowering, but I do like the sky, it does have some cool lines in it that make it almost look abstract. Kind of have to look at it for a minute to figure out what you're looking at. The 2nd one, I definitely like better. Trees have amazing characters don't they? The only minor nitpick I would have would be the branch at the bottom left. Maybe taken from a different angle so that the tree seems to be just shooting out of the bottom of the picture, did I say that right? Congrats on the new camera too :) |

How did you process the first one... You can use quick mask and the gradient tool to apply a gradual change to something, that way you could keep the sky less processed and still blast the bottom?
Mel
Oh yeah I like them both! |

Great work. I like them both.
Just a little thing about the border on the black and white - a thin black line before the white (similar to what you did on the 2nd one) would make a much better separation between the picture and the white border.
