This morning was beautiful in my home for two reasons. My sweet little girl came in to my room early this morning announcing that it was her birthday and that she was 7&1/2 now (really, she's 7 today but let's indulge her, ok? LOL)
The other reason it was nice is that there was a beautiful light snow falling that gave us just enough snow to cover an inch deep then the clouds swept away to a gorgeous blue sky. I took advantage of the situation to sneak out to the back yard before work, to take a few pics of the snow covered trees. I got some nice closeup shots of some pinecones and here are my faves.
I've been trying so hard and working on my composition, rule of threes, and post processing. I would love any feedback you could give me on these. Thanks in advance!

I like the composition and colors. The one issue I see is that the snow seems overexposed (though it's possible this is only on my moniter...it's been having issues with the bright end of things). It's so bright I can't make out the detail in it. I think it would add to the photos if you could see the texture and sparkle of the snow. |

Really? I can see all the crystals and sparkly bits in the snowflakes on my monitor. Thanks so much for your comments. :)

Must be my moniter then. I need to get one of those calibration things...it just wont cooperate on its own. |

I don't believe that the snow is over exposed. The color and compostion is good for the shot but I find the shot a bit uninteresting. You have done well for what is there and if you had a better subject you would have a great photo. When you shot more things I would not mind seeing them.

The image I have on my screen is clear, crisp with a wonderful DOF. The colour and composition are quite good, even though I find the thought of more snow ever so depressing. (Chorus...we want summer, we want... )

I agree with Ray, nice clear colors and composition. I prefer the second one, I like the way the branch cuts diagonally through the shot. Can I chime in on the "we want summer" chant??? |

I hear ya on the "we want summer" chant. The snow was gone by noon. LOL I want summer too!

IMHO the bright spots in the background are distracting. I think the issue is that you went outside when the sky was blue. The harsh sunlight causes uneven light and the result is distracting highlights. I think if you had taken the shot when the sky was still grey you would have had a much "smoother" shot and you could have pulled even more details out of the snow and pine cones.
Of course I am sick of snow too....

I like them both, even though they make me feel cold. I think the exposure it right on. |
