This took around 2 minutes - I've PM'd you.
I felt that this kind of treatment suited the stark subject quite nicely.
Cheers

I have seen your profile and don't know why you would want my comment but I will leave one. You are a great photographer (in my mind) and have already perfected it. I will go and leave my opinion.

My effort for the lines challenge, not too displeased with its placing.
Like to hear your comments,

Thanks James,
We all have our own opinions on what works and what doesn't. You noticed something I really never considered cloning out and has never been mentioned before, (weeds) as I have a tendancy to display what I see.
In regards to that great photographer statement - perfection is still a very long ways away.
If it weren't for Photoshop, I would suck.

How long did you have the shutterspeed set for?
Or more specifically how did you do this shot? |
So you wanted to know how this was done? Ok..first thing you need when shooting at night is a tripod. Then you always need to slow your shutter otherwise you won't get the most out of your light. There are a few sources of light here, the moon, light behind the house and the streetlamps, all of that light becomes extra luminous when leaving your shutter open. If you were to go there and see the same scene with the naked eye, it would be much darker than what you see here. Photo specs are available, thanks for your interest.

I know the basics but want some specifics. The shot looks like the work of this guy that does Lost America and I'm particularly curious about the greens and purples etc. Were the colors captured straight through the camera or done some other way? |

Thanks Pawdrix...that guy really has nice stuff. It's all done trough the camera, I don't have a photoshop or elements program. The only editing I do is cropping and sharpening. The house is in a Monumental district and the homes constantly get facelifts and paintjobs, so that color is just the paint. :-) I guess I really don't have anything to explain except look for light sources at night, even if they are DIM...remember that. |

I really want to try that stuff out but as you know where I live there is so much corrupted light flying all around I don't have many places to get clean moonlight or anything close to natural.
I assume that house isn't exactly lime green? If you looked at that other guys work you seem to have brought out those same colors. So I'm assuming that a natural type of light mixed with a steady street light will burn some interesting rich colors into the subject? |

definatly... It's a mixture of light sources. You see Troy Paiva does his shots within 4 days of the full moon. He only relies on the moon for light, thats why all his shots have that blue tint. The lime green? The house was that color. The light will always brighten up a color, so if your shooting something dull at night, it will be a bolder color when your long exposure is done. You dont need clean moonlight. That is why I get orange and purple skies. Blue mixed with the red from the streetlamps, gives you purple. So the sky isnt edited in PS, it is created from a mixure of lightsources and a long exposure timed right. I also use the aperture to let more light in if I have to. |
