Just a a quick question to see if anyone else is seeing DPC pages load any slower the last couple days - I see a distinct change, yet nothing else seems to be slower. I have DSL and Firefox; no virus' or spyware per current scans. Thanks for any input!

Hi Kylie,
I've checked off and on the last couple of days and just went and checked again....and the photos are loading regularly for me. I'm on cable if that makes any difference. Glad it's not spyware...that stuff screwed up my computer at work... Are you having bad weather where you're at?

I've been experiencing slow page loads off and on the past two days, and have confirmed that one of the admins has seen it as well. We're not aware of what the source of the issue might be though.

Yes - wer'e having rain storms, but that isn't much I would think. Interesting that Kirbic has seen it though. I am hoping it isn't just me - that means it may be fixable!!!

I have experienced the same Kylie, particularly today. I know for a fact that I have no viruses, no spyware as I scan for all of these wonderful things daily. My connection is very fast, and I have not been experiencing any problems with anything else.

I would point out that this problems comes and goes,,, which may be a good thing since I can't press that update button and watch my score fall quite as fast.... hehehhehe

Running Fiber here with MAC Safari and things seem to be pretty good. might just be something to do with traffic or server issues but it most certainly is not slow IMO.

It seems to be the server, judging by the time it's occasionally taking to expel pages. I'm sure it will get sorted out. Prolly too many addicts pushing "update", LOL.

Thanks everyone!! No problem at all if it is simply a server issue that will eventually be resolved. I just was afraid I had a problem that I had no idea of how to track down!

Yers I am. I thought it was my computor but it is not so I figured dp would take care of it.

It is slowing down dramatically for a few minutes at a time every now and then, for me. It's not my machine, this I know.

It's super slow for me. At times it will take like 10 seconds just to get one picture up. I'm on cable internet and it usually loads in like a half a second. No other web pages seem to be like that though for me so I would assume it's just bandwidth issues (tons of people here lately).

And to think I have been calling and chewing out my cable provider for the last couple days.

haha...which reminds me. I think it's due time I called them and complained about something.

Here's a nice story...

For the first 3 months in my apartment, I was experiencing down-time on the internet for sometimes up to 2 days at a time. The cable company was anything but helpful and wouldn't refund any of my money because they kept telling me that I MUST have the power off because they couldn't communicate with my cable modem.

They even sent someone out a few times and tested the line coming in and all was fine. But it just kept happening at which time they told me it was my computer.

Finally, I replaced that cable piece (the one they supplied) that goes from the modem to the back of my computer (with one I bought from radio shack). Upon inspection, the piece you plug in had a big crack in it so apparently that was the problem all along -- and everything was fine from then on.

In January, I moved, and of course didn't have that cable to turn in because it was in the garbage months ago...and wouldn't you know, they charged me $10.00 because I didn't 'turn in all equipment'.

OMG!!!!!! 10 whole whooping seconds for one picture!!! Just kidding.
;-)
I'm jealous. A normal load time for me average 34 seconds per picture (yes, I timed it one day to see). So, I guess I haven't noticed any slow time 'cause all my times are slow times. :(

Just turn images off. It's much faster with text alone.

Normal time for me to view a picture after the page appears; around half a second.

I don't know how long I actually look at the picture. 30ish seconds is just how long it takes to get the fool thing visible.

I have noticed it being much slower than normal at times in the last few days

I wasn't clear: first the page pops up, then the image shows up on the page. With a slow connection, like yours, it takes 30 seconds for the image to "draw"; with my connection, about half a second. I usually look at them for quite a bit longer than that :-)

duh. I figured that is what you meant. I'll blame my misunderstanding on sleep deprivation.

And with that -- good night

I pay $30 for the DSL part, and an extra $10 to keep my Earthlink/Mindspring email and limited dial-up option.
03/23/2005 01:41:56 AM · #24
$62 for basic cable or I can get DSL with a "bundle", whatever the hell that is, from the phone company with a 1 year contract for $85. The only other option here is dial-up. That only costs $52 a month. And you all thought gas prices were high.

I pay 55 bucks p/m for 4 mb/s cable and can't complain. In fact Telewest have been great to me from the start. It has never went down and I subscribed to the 2mb/s and they gave me an upgrade for christmas absolutley free, forever.
