I'm going to buy a dedicated flash. Canon's 580EX or Sigma's EF-500 DG Super E-TTL II. The price of Canon's is noteable higher than Sigma's, but is there big difference between the flashes?
I think I'm going for the Sigma, but I want to hear what the people here think about those two..

Just got the 580EX and got no further than turning it on and using it in auto mode - its a different world to the onboard flash on my 300D - this thing is highly intelligent and outhinks me (though thats not difficult).

The 550 is canon's equivalent to Sigma's 500.
From all i have read there is very little diffrence between the two as far as the user will notice. About $100 difference in price.
I am still flipping back and forth myself. The Sigma will do all i need, and that should be that. Somehere in my mind i have the thought that the Canon is better..perhaps better build quality?
The interaction of the flash and hte camera is complex - read both manuaals and practice!

Ok! I think this thread changed my opinion. Now I think I'm going for the Canon. :)
