Is there a way to see what steps were taken in the post-processing in order to recreate the editing process exactly? If not, I think Photoshop should should create a button or macro to allow the user to see what steps were taken throughout an entire process. Does anyone know if this feature is already there? Thanks.

If the post processing job was done properly then all the edits should be on layers. Usually each edit will be done on a separate layer so you can turn the layers on and off one at and time and see how each one affects the image.

History? |
The change history is limited to a certain number of steps (configurable in the options) and is not stored with the image file.

That's right, history in a way. I know all about the layers, but sometimes I save the JPEG if I am in a hurry and not the PSD so it flattens the image, thus removing my layer history. But yeah, the history of each action. Where is it? Which drop down menu?

In photoshop CS you can go into edit>preferences and ask to record the entire edit history to a text doc. Dont have my computer here (with PSCS on it) to tell you exactly the steps but it will give an entire history on the photo into a text doc in my documents or wherever you choose to save it. I will update this forum once I confirm the steps. |

"Window --> History" does not exist on my version. I am running Photoshop Limited Edition. So maybe my old program doesn't have that function. Thanks for the responses.

History is only available while the image is open. It will be under Window/History.

Are you asking about one of your own images or checking out someone esle's image to see how it was done? |

I was speaking of my own saved images. Or for that matter after I have already done my editing, but have not closed down PS to go back and write down or copy/paste the steps I took. But again, I think is must be a PS LE lapse. Because I am fairly well versed in software and feel like I've have searched for that function to the fullest.

I can get around photo shop to do what I need but you might want to take a look at actions. Check out Ed Pierce's videos on Potoshop at //www.photovisionvideo.com With actions, once you find something you like I think you can save the action and apply it any time you want. |
