But I'll post this anyway. Just looked at my portfolio and realised I hadn't really put anything new in there since I got my dSLR.

So here's a few fairly abstract shots I've taken in the last week or two.

Cheers

Anders

Hehehe... talk about a resounding reception :P - I guess I might have to bump this at a more north american friendly time. I forgot that when I posted this it was roughly 3:00am on the US east coast.

But if anyone happens to be up at this hour and has any thoughts I'd love to hear them.

Thanks

I think you're going all abstract on us, Sam. I quite like them, actually.

Yeah - I've noticed it just seems to be the way I'm seeing the world this few months. I think it's also the by-product of where I live, in a lot of ways brisbane is a great city, but there isn't a whole lot of breathtaking vistas/ intrinsically exciting stuff to be shot (in tourist terms it's largely used as a gateway to some of the beautiful coastal areas in queensland). As a result, I find I end up wandering around searching for interest in places which are, on the surface at least, visually uninteresting.

As such I end up focusing on shapes, colours and angles in the hopes of finding something a little out of the ordinary.

Hopefully I've suceeded at least to a degree :).

I might have to throw something into the boredom challenge just to make sure I don't lose the capacity to take concrete/more conventional photographs completely :P.

Well, you've described a visually boring place, and your own condition of artistic boredom-seekong-sustenance, so you ought to be able to do fine in that :-)

That would be good advice for a lot of dpc photogs. Many are shooting less realistic shots lately, perhaps because of the recent spat of loose challenge topics.

Hard for me to think that Brisbane is such an uninteresting place to shoot. For someone like me it would seem far off and exotic. I like to think there are interesting subjects available almost everywhere. Sometimes you have to tailor your shooting more to what's around you than to what you wish was around you. As the song says- "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with."

Hehehe, don't get me wrong - I love brissie, and there's plenty of stuff to shoot - it's just that a lot of that stuff isn't so convenient for me to get to. We have a whole stack of beautiful beaches around, natural stuff within 90 minutes drive but I have no car (and the city itself is ridiculously spread out - apparently, and take this with a grain of salt, it takes up more geographical space than any city in the world besides los angeles).

In a lot of ways I enjoy the lack of obvious photo opportunities - one of the best reactions I get to my photographs is - where/what is that -followed by a response of 'wow - I had no idea it looked like that.' So I'm not going to give up the abstractionist caper just yet :P.

Anyway, I guess this counts as the bump for the north american evening crowd I mentioned... so any critiques or comments are always much appreciated.

Thanks
