Who is bored and up for a useless silly challenge?

Below is a photo where I have removed all the color except the skin tones. The challenge is to add color back into this photo and see how real you can make it look.

I would like to sneak in the real photo in the bunch and see if people can pick out the real one from the colored ones, if someone wants to be the person to sneak in the real one email me at swilson@hawaii.rr.com and I will email one person the original photo so that they can post it as their own.

I left the skin tones colored since this are hard to get right, if people want a harder challenge later I could post a photo where you need to get the skin tones right.

Since it is easier to work on the full size I have put a link to it full sized, put in the color then resize to 640 x 480 and post it.

It's a lot of work to make it look right and I don't have the time. I have tried this before and it took a long time ... : )

ok..here is my shot at it. This is a photo of my son at the State Fair of Texas this past summer. Took about 5 minutes to change this photo. It is such an easy thing to do, just sometimes time consuming on small pixel areas.

Cute photo.

But we're not talking about selectively desaturating an image, but taking a black and white image and colorizing it. Specifically, using the photo provided.

:)

I didn't know. I thought the photo was totally desaturated and using history brush to bring back the color. My bad for not understanding what was being asked..sorry.

Ok..I did it your way..here is my try at it. Remember, I am a total goof at photoshop..so this is my amateur attempt.

What am I missing? When I try to open the full-sized image, I just get a graphic that says Creating Thumbnails. ...?
03/20/2005 07:07:19 PM · #14
I had to click on the 640x480 of the first photo and work with that...I couldn't get the full size either.

I decided to spend a little more time at this, and also try a few different variations with color.

Hope you like it!

I went for subtle, and used other rock and water texture to get the coloring closer to real reflections. Was it all in vain? :-p

Wow, some of these are looking pretty good.

OK, I was finally able to access the large image, and here's my quick shot at it. It was fun...

This has got to be the original surely?

If not the lovely work with the reflected colours in the water and the rocks which look great. I also like the flash of yellow on the front of the boat.

Here's another pass at it, tweaking the first one. Struts and seat, two-tone paddle, change color in some reflections of hull and rocks.

Where the heck is Scott Wilson, who posed this challenge? Shouldn't he be commenting on our poor attempts to meet it? HEY SCOTT? WE NEED YA!
