That is just beautiful, Lisa. If I had time and were bored, I would be trying my hand at PS and working with my older shots, too. Critically speaking, there is some "noise", but that can't be avoided. I would make your frame simpler and thinner and let the image speak more loudly. The feel and emotion in this shot is just superb.

It's a nice serene scene. I like the composition, except for a couple of things. First, your subject is dead center which gives the image a static feel. Secondly, it looks like there is some pretty bad banding in the sky. |

thanks guys. I know what you mean about the sky. It is very grainy. The person is in the centre because i just took the pic with someone there, i have no idea who it was. I didnt think they would like it very much if i asked him to move over :o)

Hi Lentil,
I love B&W photography just as well as I like vivid color photographs. I think you have composed the image well and it speaks for itself but softly because of its size. You may want to try to enlarge your image @ 5% increments to avoid image problems. I see that the sky has some noise but that could be fixed in PS or Neat Image. I agree with Kylie that the border is to large. A smaller border with a larger image IMO would make your picture speak louder.
As is I like it. It is a picture that would not need a title to explain it's existence.
Good Job!

Hi Lisa,
This is a beautiful picture. I would love to see it a little larger to bring out more detail. I agree with the others about the border being too overpowering. Some of the chatter banding in the sky may be from compressing the file. You are all the way down to 78460 bytes. I actually like the person in the picture, it gives it a feeling of solitude and a dimension of size.

I personally like the color version. I am one of the few that are getting disillusioned with rampant B & W's when not always an enhancement. I realize that I am in a minority, though.

you know the funny thing! When i posted the colour I thought, hey i think i like it colour. LOL. I LOVE B and W but sometimes colour rules over and above all. I just thought the sky lacked something, maybe clouds would of been better.

I have to agree with Kylie on this one. The colored version looks very good. I would not do away with the warm colors. Here is a quick edit.

Ok - here's what I did...I went over the sky with the paint brush, using a gradation of medium gray to white at 20% opacity.
I then used the blure tool to get rid of any remaining artifacts and burned the sky at the top, dodged it a bit over the right mountain.
I selected the person and moved him slightly left of center so that the eye will move from one side of the picture to the other creating an even flow. Then I used the cloning stamp to replace where the man was with water.
Lastly, I burned and dodged some contrast into the rocks.
Hope you like.

I still like the color version. I dont think the lighting is good enought to bother making it a B and W. |

Not to "agree" with myself, but I like this more pastel version. Very free.

Kylie;
Pat yourself on your back and shake your own hand, then give yourself a thumbs up! LOL
I like the B&W. :) But then I live in B&W. My mom thinks I'm insane.
Maybe I am?

It is - but only when it goes your way. When it doesn't, you want to throw the computer out the window.
But don't - they're expensive. And so are the psychiatric visits when you realize what you've done. :)
