Here's my take (but I wouldn't go this route) is silver = touristy and tourist seem to get hasseled (by the authorities) less than the Pros with their fancy smancy Black bodied breteren. There's a thread around here that discusses the phenom.

Personally I like the black body with a big ol lens hanging on the front...cause people do get out of when you're sporting gear like that, now all I have to do is be able to take perty pitchers.

lol. that is funny. I actually had the opposite effect this week. I am a videographer for a documentary unit, and we are working on a piece about the OKC bombing. (10th ann. coming up) we were hastled to no end about shooting at the memorial. but if you are a "tourist", you have free reign to take whatever pics/video you want. I know that in most cases, it works the other way, but our big equipment was not a good thing that day.

I prefer the silver, as the black is more obviously plastic looking. If it was black metal, I would say black, but in this case I think the black looks cheaper.

Black...

Unless it's a lens.. In which case you're allowed a sorta off-white, with a touch of red, and black rubber grippy bits.

And if it's truely big enough they not only get out of your way, they run! :-).

Silver, especially if you're into travel or street photography, it certainly gets less attention and looks more touristy.

And this is coming from me. The gal who refuses to touch anything else but black. Black may look cool but silver is easier to take pictures with. You don't know how many looks I got with black bodied SRLs, with the 300D, not that much.

But all in all, it's inside of the camera that matters as well as the photographer. We don't need discrimnation in that camera as well, if a fabulous DSRL with 10mp came out for under a thousand grand and it was GREEN, would you not buy it? Are looks more important in photography as much as it is in our society?! HOW can this be handled!!! What will we DO?!!!

Weee rebelion.

Well we'd spray paint it black. And then not on;ly would it have 10mp, it would also double the capacity of any memory card you put in it and shoot at up to 10 fps till the card ran out. Iso 6400 would also become noiseless.

Well I have the black one, and had the silver 300D
I realy like the black, but my kids say that the silver 300D was far more "cool" than this new small black camera that hides itself behind the lens.

It's realy realy small, there's nothing bad-ass about it as far as I can tell. It looks like a toy camera, wonder how it will look with a big white L-lense on it.

Did I allready say it's small?

But it's a realy nice camera, well worth the upgrade, and you won't believe how quick it is if you are used to a 300D....

But it's realy small (or did I allready mention that?)

who cares what colour it is.... its only a canon *grin*

actually what i wanna know is why they charge more money for a black one, is it harder to make? My personal taste would be BLACK sorry but I think the silver ones look like what they are....PLASTIC.

P&S cams should be silver but a DSLR has to be black... just my opinion.

Hi gang,

A while back there was something about replaceable color covers for cams published on a well known Spanish photo page. Too bad it was April's fool :)

Maybe someone will think about actually starting this business...

Don't forget the battery grip. The body is really small, and I don't find the balance to be as good as I'd like. If it's small for me I hate to think what it's gonna be like for you guys. :)

Yep you're right...because with a canon 600 f4 on the end of a black body, people will get out of your way so much more than if it was on a silver body??? You people crack me up...it's too early to be laughing like this.

Back in the day, when I started in photojournalism we used black cameras because they did not stand out, or reflect. You wanted to not be seen. In Vietnam if you had a silver camera you would cover it with black duct tape or paint it black. Some commanders would not let you accompany the troops if as they would put it “IF YOUR SHIT RTEFLECTS YOU COULD GET US KILLED”.

So as to weather black or silver. It doesn’t matter, after all it’s not the camera that makes a good photo, it’s the photographer.

I'm not getting into this. It's bad enough that I have to change my hifi system every year to be badass. I just finished buying silver seperates and now black is on its way back in again :-/

lol Black never left. Silver just looks more futuristic and looks "newager" if you will. My suggestion is to go for quality not looks.
