I have been having some issues with use of my photos (as in, lack of permission, credit). I post re-sized versions on my website to share with friends - but I think I need to add some sort of copyright on the shots.

Has anyone ever used the Water Mark Factory software?
//www.watermarkfactory.com/promo.htm?from=wf_specials

Good or bad experiences? I downloaded the trial version and quickly added a WM to a folder of photos. But I am wondering if anyone has a better suggestion.

You guys are all so helpful - I really appreciate your suggestions.

If you use Photoshop you can add a watermark/copyright through a batch process.

Pulled this of a forum somewhere else.

Easiest way is to make your watermark on a new layer (whether it's a logo, a "(c)2002 Steelsun" or whatever).
Then lower the opacity of that layer to what works best for the image being marked.

I keep an image of my watermarks and just drag them from that image to a new layer in the image being marked.

Another way is to make your watermark as a new image, and then save it as a brush. Then just select that brush and place it on the new image wherever.

I have a few (define(ed) as pattern) for future use ;)
Then you can watermark quickly anything you want :)

Just did a google search in quotes:
"Watermarking in Photoshop"

I have Elements only - and I didn't find anything on it that could do the WM.

And - it's nice to do the brush layer but with the amount of photos I would want to add a mark to batch would be the fastest/easiest way to do it.

Create an action that creates a layer with the text and then run the batch process using that action. You can also add the watermark if you use the Web Gallery batch process (it's on of the settings).

Go into PS help and search for Actions, Batch, Watermark and you should be able to get all the details. It's fairly intuitive, that's how I learned.

cbeller, I agree, this is defintely the best way of doing it, previously I went through all my images before posting them on my website ( www.the-binary-refinery.co.uk ) and added the WM manually, once I created the action and run it as a batch, the speed of it made a mockery of my old way. You just run the action on a directory and it automatically opens them, watermarks them, then closes/saves them. Not sure if PS Elements allows batch operation, but if it does, you are in business!!

I am trying to figure out exactly how to accomplish the method described by cbeller.

Here's how I do mine with PS.

- Make a text layer with gray text (copyright symbol = ALT+0169)
- Create a layer style with Bevel & Emboss
- Set layer to Overlay
- Set layer to 50% opacity

That's it! Play around with the bevel styles and settings, try
different colored text, different opacities, and try different layer
settings (like soft light, multiply, etc.)

I suppose if you wanted your watermark to repeat over the image you could just "Define as Pattern" and use it that way.

skiprow's e-mail, for any who are interested...

and, please, please, make a backup copy of the folder with the images you want to fool with first, before you start doing stuff to them!!!

1) in ps, open the file browser: File | Browse
2) navigate to the folder you want to run the batch process on
3) open up a single image
4) open the actions pallete (Alt-F9 or Window | Actions)
5) click the 4th button from the left on the bottom (it says Create New Set)
6) give it a name and click ok
7) click the 5th button from the left on the bottom (it says Create New Action)
8) give it a name and click ok

at this point, you are going to be recording an action (in other programs/platforms, this is often referred to as a 'macro' or a 'script').

1) click on the Text Tool
2) draw a rectangular box across your image
3) type in "Copyright Max Jordan © 2005" (the © you get by having your numlock on and typing 0169)
4) move/rotate the text to where you want it to be and hit enter
5) click File | Save and save your image
6) close the image
7) click the first button on the left on the actions pallete to stop recording

you now have an action. if you select the rest of the images in the folder, you can go to Batch | Automate and play this action.

...also, you want to do an image watermark like I ended up doing...

instead of part three you may even copy/paste another image, place it, and even change the opacity and transparency of the image, and include that in the automation process. Just make sure you have the desired watermark image copied to your computers clipboard for Photoshop will paste whatever you have copied to your clipboard.

Thank you skip!
