I do not work for DPC nor do I get a commision but here is a something to think about as lightly or deeply as you like.

I have been a member in many sites. their fees? Ranging from 50 to several hundred dollars. Yet, I find no place that delivers a bigger bang for your dollar than DPC. Believe me, I have been around. No place offers you more. The initial cost of 25.00 proves that this site is placed together with the very best of intentions.

Now, if you become a member, yes there are many little benefits but the most important I will outline here:

If you like photography in whatever degree than DPC is certain to make you a better photographer. By becoming a member you take the first step in a conscious effort to join a club that will repay you its initial fee over and over again.

Consider, it will begin to make you take care of those little things that you have in mind to do such as: learning to use your camera better; learning about editing software; learning to compose and shoot a better image.

Then you have a place to test your skills and receive a true evaluation. Yes, you can accomplish this from outside or even as a registered user, but by becoming a member you give yourself a better chance because once you cough up the very modest fee, you commit. It is the latter that proves that you are now ready to expand your horizons.

The other good that your consent to join breeds is to help the site grow bigger and stronger to serve its initial purpose. So here you have a multi tier purpose to help yourself and help others.

Yes, not all who join will become great, that is not the chief purpose, but even the novice will move up the ranks to within their own limitations. That is, there is nothing to lose. It will simply change your outlook and gear you towards a better road.

I say, do it. You will never regret it.

Great post Daniel, I couldn't agree more - the best $25 I EVER spent, I'm so glad I stumbled on this site, it has changed the way I look at things forever.

I am quite new here, but I really think that this is a great place to hang out. I don't think that I ever want to try an other site :)

This site is waaaaay more interesting than any other forum I have found to date. (Better than craigslist boring ass rant and rave section) Best change I put forth all year, and as graphicfunk mentions it will help push you beyond your own limits. I have been taking way better pictures in the last month since I joined than I ever have. Just look at the bridge submission in my profile from my first challenge compared to other photos in my profile. I'm suprised that photo did an average of 5; that shot was pure crap.

Plus, I have learned some new photoshop techniques, and was blessed with the knowledge of neatimage, something I never heard of before. So, I'm glad to partake in this site. I'm way more psyched about photography these days, and I could care less about winning ribbons, i'm just having so much fun. I also like that there are mature people adding good input instead of users just slamming/flaming newbies for asking questions instead of searching through pages and pages of forum for the answer to their question.

Great job to all the folks that run this thing.

I have been here a little over two months now and it is the best $25 I ever spent. I have learned so much in the past two months and have received a lot of help from what I consider some great photgraphers here. I don't think there is a better community out there. From what I have seen the members here are all like family. We look out for one another and help whenever possible. I have met some nice people here and made some good friends. A big "HELL YA" to everybody here for making this a great community to be a part of.

Since I have joined I am always on this site. I no longer have time for the porn sites.;) JK Maybe not but I thought it was funny.

I fully agree. I only waited a week or two before becoming a paid member. There are so many factors that make this one of the best (if not THE best) photography based website around:
1. The community. Both pros and amatures able to get feedback and learn off one another without any elitism sneaking in.
2. The design. There are so many smart design techniques (I'm not talking about how it looks, but under the hood) going on, especially with statistical tracking - fantastic.
3. The concept. I have been addicted to this site from day one. Everytime I enter a photo, or view a photo, or read a profile, or read a forum discussion I learn something new, and thats what life is all about.

Well done DPC.

My synopsis: A cheap photo magazine subscription costs $15-$20, and that's only 12 times out of the year! I have 2 subscriptions and don't read them that much. If I need to know something, I come straight here and search through the forums or ask somebody. NO magazine out there will give you personal critiques of your photos and help you out, not to mention helping to learn the software to do wonders with your photo. This is the best thing I've done since buying my camera, and I've only been a member for 3 months. Drew and Langdon are my personal heroes for starting this site, and the Site Council are amazing as well for all their time and dedication.

Now if we can just get referral bonuses, that would be cool. :^)
