try leaving it some where warm and dry like a hot water cupboard for a day or 2 if not helping a trip to the repairman is in order.

Did the coffee contain cream or sugar? If so then drying may not bring the camera back to life. The residue can coat switch contacts and prevent proper operation. But short of sending it in for repair, drying is the best thing you can do.

If you don't have your camera listed on your insurance policy, now would be a good time to call your agent to inquire. It should cost you about $30 a year, and covers just such accidents.

If you're sure that coffee made it into the camera, it is destroyed. Where I work has a service center for Nextel phones, and most of the damages we see here are relative to electronic devices in general. If a unit has any small amount of liquid damage, the entire unit is damaged beyond repair. If it won't power on, then the camera has short circuited. Even if you dry it out, the components inside will corrode. It may work again for a short time, but will eventually corrode out of working order. Even if you send it out for repair, it may be returned to you in the same condition as liquid damaged electronics are usually deemed "beyond repair". Good luck, and sorry to hear about your misfortune. Of course, I hope I'm wrong and that the camera is fine.

Why was your 3 year old drinking your coffee. Can you put hot beverages in a sippy cup?
